- We are seeking experienced Structures Engineers to join the Subsea 7 engineering department in Houston, TX on a staff basis, to execute a wide variety of construction and IRM projects.
ABOUT THE SENIOR STRUCTURAL ENGINEER - SUBSEA CONSTRUCTION POSITION
The Senior Structures Engineer (Subsea Construction) will undertake responsibility for production of deliverables, which may include engineering support to drawing office, design calculations, specifications, procedures, analyses, progress reports, bid evaluations, study reports and various 3rd-party submissions.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide specialist skills, integrity and knowledge in key areas of discipline engineering, including design codes, legislative requirements and current good engineering practice; Understand clients' needs; identify and address design parameters and problems; develop and implement solutions; Independently evaluate, organize and prioritize work for self and others; Sign and issue technical documentation as originator or checker, accepting personal responsibility for its adequacy; Ensure all relevant safety objectives and legal requirements are observed; Actively participate in relevant training to pursue continuing professional development; Train / mentor more junior engineers; Recognize and accept company HSE Roles & Responsibilities.
SPECIFIC ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, detail and review technical documentation relating to subsea structures' construction and installation; Undertake, and check others', analysis, design and engineering activities associated with subsea construction and installation; Provide structural stability and integrity calculations for steel frame structures, pipelines, spool pieces, tie-ins, risers and umbilicals, etc. Design to resist forces for in-service, installation and transportation load conditions. Determination of size, shape, strength, and type of structural members; Design and detailing in accordance with acknowledged industry Codes, Standards and Design Guides (e.g. API, DNV, AISC); Client Specifications and Scopes of Work; Production and checking of design documentation including feasibility reports, detailed design reports, construction drawings, design specifications, material take-offs, weight control calculations, etc; Liaise with associated subsea related disciplines and understand the interfaces within a project; Provide engineering assistance during mobilizations and occasional periods of offshore or site working; Provide technical engineering support to other departments within the Central Engineering Group, the Project Engineering Group, and to colleagues in terms of training and mentoring; Participate as required in events such as Bid Clarifications, Kickoff meetings, HIRAs, Design Reviews, etc.
All personnel are expected to contribute to creating a positive HSEQ culture within Subsea 7 and ensure familiarity with and adherence to local HSEQ codes and practices.
University Degree in relevant discipline. Continuing Professional Development. Professional Engineer is an advantage.
Minimum 5 years experience in subsea construction and installation, including pipelay. Demonstrate sound knowledge of structural analysis and design software. Must be familiar with MathCAD, STAAD.Pro and ANSYS. Manage interfaces within a project structure, including other disciplines, drawing office, document control, project management, client and suppliers. Manage change control within own remit on a project. Ability to lead and function within a design team and across multiple projects. Demonstrable ability to work within time/budget constraints. Inform team members where constraints will affect a project in terms of program or budget. Good communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to prioritize own workload and manage time accordingly.
Houston, Texas with regular trips to worksites onshore and offshore as appropriate
