OVERVIEW OF ROLE

Subsea 7 are recruiting for a Fixed Pipelay Engineer to work in our Pipelay Group within the Offshore Resources Division.  The main aspect of the role is to manage the technical requirements and interfaces for our Pipelay fleet, the Fixed Pipelay Engineer is responsible for technically managing the interface with our Vessel and Equipment Superintendents and our major equipment manufactures and the successful candidate will have knowledge and training within naval architecture and/or marine engineering or mechanical engineering.

The role is accountable for contributing to the development of all Subsea 7’s policies and procedures.

All personnel are expected to contribute to creating a positive HSEQ culture within Subsea 7, and ensure familiarity with and adherence to local HSEQ codes and practices.

Specific Key Responsibilities & Activities

  • Daily assistance to vessel superintendents in technical matters related to structural and mechanical issues including any equipment upgrades or specific tasks.
  • Take an active role in supporting the Pipelay Manager, Technical Leads and Equipment Superintendents in their execution of department work.
  • Technical assistance in connection with break-downs and maintenance.
  • Prepare specifications, scope of work, calculations and procedures for modifications.
  • Develop RCE for any vessel equipment upgrades including assisting with the development of man-hour estimates and develop schedules for onshore engineering and offshore implementation to suit overall project plans, taking responsibility for delivery.
  • Recommendation of actions that should be taken in vessel technical related issues.
  • Inspections/Follow up changes in rules and regulations.
  • Recommend improvement related to maintenance philosophy and maintenance level.
  • Develop and maintain relationship with manufacturer/suppliers of relevant equipment.
  • Responsible for transfer of experience and know how between vessels including any lessons learned.
  • Responsible to ensure that the technical teams on new builds/projects are working to the correct standards, including but not limited to Equipment Assurance, FMECA’s etc.
  • Liaise with the Technical Leads, Vessel Superintendents.
  • Any other duties as directed by the Pipelay Manager

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • A technical engineering background with considerable man management experience is essential as is the ability to understand and implement working practices.
  • Pleasant disposition with the capability to be authoritative when necessary.
  • Strong co-ordination, organisation and liaison skills with the ability to seek and gain consensus solutions to complex issues.
  • The ability to understand interface relationship between marine and project personnel.
  • Able to communicate effectively and articulately at all levels within the industry.
  • Previous experience of different operational technical requirements.
  • Capable of influencing technical decisions relative to the equipment owned and managed by the group.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Educated to a preferred degree level in either Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering, but experience may be considered.
  • Relevant offshore technical experience at an appropriate level in the operation and maintenance of Lay Systems and Equipment.
