Since 2005 Subsea 7 has successfully run its Conversion Engineering Programme providing experienced engineers from other industries with the opportunity to take existing skills and experience and develop them into a new career with the subsea oil and gas industry. Through the programme many engineers have gone on to develop their careers within the sector and become leaders within the organisation.

How do we do it? 

The conversion programme is a tailored scheme that provides an introduction to subsea engineering generally, and Subsea 7 activities specifically. In addition, there will be visits to vessels and construction sites. There will then be assignment to live projects, with ongoing training, development and mentoring. Joining as part of the programme along with a number of other people the successful candidates will be fully supported every step of the way through structured development and mentoring as well as informally by colleagues within the business.

The Role

The Conversion Programme is aimed at developing Subsea Drafting Designers; Designers who are responsible for supporting projects within the business ranging from Inspection Repair and Maintenance to major EPIC developments. Based onshore in Westhill, Aberdeen these roles are offered on a staff basis with competitive base salaries and comprehensive benefits package

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop subsea design drafting skills and experience via conversion programme and project exposure
  • Provide specialist design drafting skills, both 2D and 3D modelling
  • Create engineering drawings, 3D models, layouts and sketches
  • Assist in checking drawings for accuracy and completeness
  • Develop knowledge of company products and design requirements
  • Work to global company procedures and work methods.
  • Work under general supervision, applying engineering drafting techniques to complex subsea designs and assignments using industry standards and codes
  • Apply acquired knowledge of relevant engineering principles to complement the design process
  • Able to work independently or as part of a multi-disciplined design team
  • Ability to interact effectively with project/team and relevant interfaces
  • Demonstrate good organisational skills and smart working methods
  • Responsibilities may include supervision of junior resources, mentoring and guidance on all other related project and departmental activities.
  • Actively participate in relevant training and development to pursue continuing professional development.

Qualifications and Education:

It is desirable that candidates are HND/HNC qualified in an Engineering discipline. However, demonstrable relevant practical experience in engineering drafting will also be considered.

Skills and Experience:

Engineering design drafting; Extensive 2D AutoCAD; 3D Inventor / SolidWorks skills preferred but not essential.

It is essential that candidates have a professional approach appropriate to the role with the following attributes; Good oral and written communication skills, Team working skills, supportive of others, adaptable, accepts challenges, demonstrates integrity

Good organisational skills and structured working methods are essential for this role with the ability to prioritise workload

Experience

Whilst experience gained in construction or oil and gas related industries is desirable, we are seeking candidates from a wide range of engineering industries and backgrounds with demonstrable engineering drafting design experience who want to make the change to a career in subsea engineering drafting. 

Location

Candidates will be based in the East Campus, Westhill, Aberdeen

Travel Requirements

There may be a requirement to visit client offices or fabrication sites
