OVERVIEW OF ROLE

Subsea 7 is looking for Structural Engineers who can strengthen our team and support our ambitious growth plans within the APME region. We will consider applications at Engineer Level I, II or Senior Engineer for this role.

Based within the Design & Analysis Department of Subsea 7’s Global Project Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, you will be responsible for the structural design and analysis of subsea structures like Manifolds, PLETs, PLEMs, ILTs and PLRs as well as ancillaries for subsea installation of SPS, SURF  and pipelines.

SPECIFIC KEY ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide specialist skills, integrity and knowledge in key areas of subsea structural engineering, including design codes, legislative requirements and current good engineering practice
  • Take responsibility for production of deliverables, which may include preparation and checking of design reports, engineering support to drawing office, design calculations, specifications, procedures, analyses, progress reports, bid evaluations, study reports and various third party submission
  • Provide structural stability and integrity calculations for subsea structures like Manifolds, PLETs, PLEMs, ILTs and PLRs as well as ancillaries for subsea installation of SPS, SURF and pipelines.
  • Design and detailing in accordance with acknowledged industry codes, standards and design guidelines (e.g. API, DNV, AISC, Norsok), client specifications and scopes of work
  • Provide stress analysis for various subsea structures, rigging/lifting equipment and sea fastening arrangements utilizing NSO/Isymost and ABAQUS or similar software
  • Assisting design team to develop 3D models and follow up with design team to ensure all design inputs are aligned with calculations performed and structural steel specifications
  • Production of specifications, data sheets and MTOs
  • Liaise with associated subsea related disciplines and understand the interfaces within a project
  • Provide specialist structural engineering assistance during occasional periods of offshore or site working
  • Actively participate in relevant training to pursue continuing professional development 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Experience, Skills and Knowledge

  • Professional qualifications – degree qualified ideally in Civil/Structural or Mechanical Engineering
  • Relevant engineering experience within the oil and gas industry ideally subsea structures design and analysis
  • Thorough understanding of relevant industry codes and standards (e.g. API, AISC, DNV)
  • Good analytical skills (manual, computational calculations and FEA) toward developing and driving technical solutions
  • Experience with NSO/Isymost, STAAD Pro, FS2000 and ABAQUS or similar software
  • Effective technical report writing and communication skills and proficient in English (written and spoken)
  • Ability to support package engineering and management
  • Ability to prioritise and organise work
  • Presents self in a professional manner appropriate to the role
  • Experience in other non-technical software e.g. MS Office including Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Desirable Experience, Skills and Knowledge

  • Membership of a relevant professional body
  • Experience with design aspects of various types of subsea structures
  • Good practical knowledge in subsea structures design related to piping, instrumentation, controls and subsea installation and intervention.
  • Experience in grillage and sea fastening design for marine transportation
  • Experience in either offshore support or within fabrication yards
  • Familiar with AutoCad/Inventor/Navisworks
  • Familiar with recognised industry engineering software (e.g. MathCad)
