Seaway 7, the Renewables & Heavy Lifting business unit within Subsea 7, is seeking to hire a QC / Welding Engineer.

Seaway 7 provides project management, engineering, fabrication, heavy lifting, cable installation and decommissioning services for offshore energy infrastructure developments. Seaway 7 delivers these in a comprehensive array of contractual structures including EPCI (Engineering, Procurement, Construction & Installation), T&I (Transportation & Installation), BoP (balance of plant) and integrated services to our clients in the renewables and oil & gas industries.

Seaway 7 is comprised of two companies:

  • Seaway Heavy Lifting (SHL) which manages and performs the transportation and heavy lifting of offshore structures.
  • Seaway Offshore Cables (SOC) which manages and performs submarine cable installation, trenching activities and related IMR services.


Contributes very efficiently to all kinds of QC/Welding process related activities for proposals, projects, estimates and/or work improvement programs and act as a focal point for welding process and accompanying accessories and ensures maintenance of applicable QC/Welding information on codes and standards.

Perform QC inspections, tests in fields such as structural, piping, grouting and coating.

Key Roles

  • Review, evaluate and monitor project related QC/Welding documents (e.g. Welders, WPS, materials, WPQ and NDE), including subcontractor’s project related documents/requirements.
  • Perform and record site visits to HLV, suppliers and/or subcontractors.
  • Define, set up, coordinate and responsible for set-up project related Welding/NDE manuals.
  • Perform and report, as appropriate and on request of SHL organization, yard, suppliers, sub-contractors and HLV visits.
  • Initiate, recommend follow-up and close out any non-conformance exposed during welding activities.
  • Maintain all applicable welder qualifications to required standards.
  • Perform and record Tender reviews.
  • Responsible for company certification and maintenance for quality requirements for welding (e.g. EN ISO 3834-2, EN1090-2).
  • Define, set up, and improve work standards/procedures/templates in SHL’s Management System.
  • Carry out other department related tasks when required by management.

Interface with 

  • Liaise with HSEQ Department and project related teams.
  • Liaise with all other departments, client’s representatives, (sub)contractors, suppliers, certifying and legislative authorities. 


  • Minimum Bachelor level of technical education (with qualification for QC/Welding/NDE).
  • IWT (International Welding Technologist) certified. Preferably IWE certified.
  • Minimum CSWIP 3.1/VTw-2 or similar Visual Welding Inspection with experience.
  • Good computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • At least three years of relevant working experience.
  • Good command verbal and written English.
  • Willingness to travel and go offshore/yard.
  • Strong communications skills. 


  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in similar position.

Capability profile 

  • Knowledge of fabrication, welding, NDT and quality engineering and testing.
  • Technical understanding of client, international codes and standards (AWS, ISO, EN, ANSO, ASME etc.).
  • Accurate and persistent.
  • Observant and good at paying attention to detail.
  • Uncompromising and having cultural behaviour.
  • Tactful and discrete.
  • Able to work in teams but also able to work independently.
  • Flexible.

Working location

The workplace is the SHL office in Zoetermeer and occasionally at yards, HLV, suppliers/sub-contractors.
