We are recruiting for experienced Surveyor Technicians to support our global operations.

This will be based on a Day Rate Contract.

The Survey Technician has the primary responsibility for the installation, maintenance and fault-finding of the online and offline survey systems together with the supporting survey sensors and interfacing to the vessel and ROV positioning systems. The Survey Technician has responsibility for the Health, Safety and welfare of themselves and others.


All personnel are expected to contribute to creating a positive HSEQ culture within Subsea 7 and ensure familiarity with and adherence to local HSEQ codes and practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Comply with Company standard operating procedures and project-specific survey procedures.
  • Review and understand project procedures and survey and inspection requirements.
  • Install, configure and interface all survey hardware, software and sensors, in compliance with manufacturer’s manuals, operating instructions and guidelines, and Subsea 7 technical procedures and technical notes.
  • Check and prepare all survey sensors in line with Subsea 7/manufacturer operating procedures, are safe and fit for purpose, transponders etc. prior to deployment & recovery.
  • Ensure that all technical faults are reported to offshore line management team.
  • Communicate with the Survey Helpdesk team for technical support, as and when required.
  • Maintain survey equipment in accordance with Subsea 7 maintenance and fault-finding procedures.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and control of survey equipment inventory at the worksite.
  • Responsible for maintaining survey system schematic drawings/diagrams, ensuring current documents are submitted to Survey Helpdesk in a timely manner.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of Survey acquisition and navigation software (EIVA preferable), specifically for interface testing and validation.
  • Assist surveyors with survey sensor and positioning system calibrations in accordance with standard Subsea 7 procedures.
  • Progress work scope as directed and in accordance with the relevant Task Plans and Approved Procedures.
  • Participate in Toolbox Talks and Pre-Job Safety Meetings. Contribute to the companies HSEQ Behavioural/Observational systems.
  • Must maintain a good working knowledge of the Subsea 7 HSEQ & safety management system and operating standards. Take proactive participation in project risk assessments.
  • Must comply with Subsea 7 Global HSEQ Processes & Procedures.
  • Must actively comply with the Subsea 7 Competence Assurance & Assessment Program.
  • Perform other duties or complete special projects as assigned


Key Requirements:

  • Minimum HND or HNC qualification in relevant electrical/electronic related discipline or relevant practical experience.
  • Desirable to have a minimum 2- 3 years of offshore experience as Survey Technician.
  • Must have a valid OPITO approved Offshore survival and OGUK medical.
  • The following certification would be desirable: CA-EBS; Shoulder Measurements; ILO Seamans Book.
  • Specific knowledge and understanding of current offshore survey techniques in Pre-engineering survey, pre-lay survey, construction support, as-built survey, ROV survey operations, LBL installation and calibration, Subsea metrology and dimensional control.
  • Knowledge and understanding of subsea engineering associated with following areas: Oil & Gas construction and field development; heavy lift operations; jacket & monopile installation operations; transition piece installation.
  • Experience of RTK Positioning.
  • Experience using total stations & dumpy levels.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interface across various disciplines and levels within the business.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Produces written work of a high standard and presentable quality
  • Ability to maintain clear and concise logbooks and records.
  • Works well with others in a team environment
  • Ability to prioritise own and others' workload, manage time and change control accordingly.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Experience of the Survey sensors & software systems will be desirable
  • Knowledge and understanding of practical seamanship & marine terminology.
  • Understanding of current survey practices & processes.

  • Eiva Navisuite (Navipac,Naviscan)
  • GNSS positioning systems e.g. Veripos
  • Vessel attitude sensors e.g. Kongsberg Seapath
  • USBL systems e.g. Kongsberg HiPAP


Experience of the following Software and Systems is desirable:

  • Sonardyne Fusion and 6G LBL
  • INS systems e.g. iXblue PHINS, ROVINS
  • Multibeam Echosounders e.g. Reson and R2Sonic
  • Pipetracker systems e.g. TSS440
  • Digital Video e.g. VisualSoft
  • AutoCAD
