POSITION PURPOSE

The Naval Architect & Structural Technical Authority (TA) is an onshore position within the OR Fleet & Equipment department. This position has responsibility to provide technical instruction and guidance for issues relates to Naval Architecture and Structural Engineering activities related to safe operations and technical industry standard applications for all company equipment / assets.

Reporting to the OR F&E Technical & Engineering Manager, the Naval Architect & Structural ROV TA will be responsible for supervising the Naval Architect & Structural Engineers located in the Aberdeen office. Strong communication lines to the Vessel Superintendents and the P&O Managers / Engineers are a key aspect of this position.

Through utilising and promoting company safety and equipment maintenance policies the Naval Architect & Structural TA will actively contribute to the safe and reliable execution of all company operations effectively and be a part of a team to successfully deliver:

  • Effective and consistent Asset & Equipment Integrity Assurance Management
  • Effective OPEX & CAPEX Budget Control
  • Providing guidance to VS/ fleet management related to industry engineering practices
  • Continual evolvement of sound engineering practices and associated equipment via regular documented Technical Review/ Management

A positive HSEQ culture within Subsea 7 and ensuring familiarity with and adherence to local HSEQ codes and practices is expected of this role.

 

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Active participation and leadership in delivery of the Subsea 7 company core values.
  • Shape and Operate within Subsea 7 Business Management System, policies and strategy.
  • Strive to ensure that the industry engineering practices adhere to Subsea 7 technical management instructions and applicable international standards
  • Participate in routine reviews of Maintenance & Repair scopes of work with the respective vessel teams.
  • Lead and guide from initial concepts through to final designs. 
  • Ensure that budgeted Capital Expenditure applications are submitted to fleet management in a timely manner with proper business justification and that these projects when approved are delivered on time and on budget.
  • Responsible for the continuous improvement of Engineering standards documentation within the BMS including technical management instructions and other departmental instructions to maximise their technical and commercial effectiveness
  • Regularly liaise with relevant stakeholders, specifically fellow Fleet & Equipment TA’s, Fleet Management and P&O Project Managers/ Engineers to ensure complete transparency regarding engineering practices and expectations and / or operational support issues.
  • Ensure timely and accurate inputs (specifications, budget and schedule) are provided to the Technology & Asset Development team for all equipment spreads being part of a new build vessel programme. Once approved, ensure the delivery of the new built systems and associated equipment is performed to the satisfaction of the company management.
  • Produce analysis reports and provide feedback on all aspects to F&E Senior Management as and when required.
  • Participate (where required) in the performance appraisals within assigned team.
  • Supports the professional and career development of self and others through continued professional training, mentoring, and on the job development.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications and Education

  • Degree / HND/ HNC Technical Qualification in a related Engineering discipline (Essential). However demonstrable experience will be considered.
  • Project Management or Business Management qualification (Desirable)

Experience

  • Proven demonstrable operational and asset management experience within the marine industry. (Essential)
  • In depth technical working knowledge of Engineering legislation and practices. (Essential)
  • A proven track record within Marine & Offshore Naval Architecture and Structural Design.
  • Previous experience of drawing interpretation/validation and responsibility for key documentation approval and management.
  • Previous experience of managing and developing teams
  • Must possess an in-depth industry network of support
