Subsea 7 is looking for a DP/Electrical Engineer as part of the Fleet Technical & Engineering group. Reporting to the DP Electrical and Controls Technical Authority, the DP/Electrical Engineer will support the vessel superintendents and fleet T&E lead in technical matters related to DP and Electrical systems as part of the embedded technical support team for the Global Fleet of vessels. He/she will assist with solutions/responses to vessels incidents; preparations and support at dockings, maintenance stops and modifications; assist with overall management of vessel maintenance.



  • Daily assistance to Vessel Superintendents in order to assure that DP, Automation, Electrical/Electronic systems are maintained to relevant standard
  • Compliance with Subsea 7 BMS and discipline guidelines
  • Compliance with international and local marine and electrical rules and regulations
  • Technical assistance in connection with breakdowns and maintenance
  • Proactive role in proposing modifications and upgrades of areas of authority for allocated vessels
  • Preparation of feasibility studies, specifications, design, assistance for purchasing for DP and electrical equipment
  • Ensure all work scopes have been properly risk assessed
  • Maintaining files and records of DP technical documents
  • Assist Vessel Superintendents with investigation and reporting of DP incidents to enable a safe return to work
  • Assist Vessel Superintendents with modifications required on board through the management of technical change process
  • FMEA review, update and acceptance, together with proving trials
  • Annual DP trials, documentation and acceptance
  • Assist and follow up of docking, modification, and upgrading work
  • Support projects in interface between vessel systems and project systems
  • Manage subcontractors, ensuring their compliance with Subsea 7 requirements as and when required
  • Initiate audits for areas of authority as required
  • Make ad hoc visits to vessels to inspect condition and maintenance carried out on the DP and electrical equipment
  • Attend weekly discipline meeting
  • Active participation in defining five year vessel plans
  • Ensure vessels drawings are kept up to date for areas of authority
  • Issue Vessel visit reports further to any vessel attendance highlighting specifically worked carried out and recommendations short and longer term
  • Issue project close out report (docking, project, specific maintenance or breakdown job)
  • Close out assigned Synergi actions in a timely manner
  • Share lesson learnt through the TIN database and DP/Elect & Controls Technical Authority
  • Prepare, review and update fleet overview documentation as part of Global fleet overviews



  • Good general education
  • Degree qualified within an electrical discipline is desirable however minimum of HNC qualification
  • Additional qualifications from a professional body (desirable)



Technical (including IT):

  • Computer literate including Microsoft Software experience
  • Detailed technical knowledge of Electrical engineering, Power Generation, PMS, VMS engine room alarm systems, demonstrated by course attendance certificates or verbal Q&A
  • Knowledge and Experience with Dynamic Positioning, DP FMEA, DP trials (desirable)


  • Clear, concise, articulate communicator verbally or in writing and comfortable speaking to colleagues, peers and external professional bodies or sub-contractors


  • Ability to work alone but remain focus on objectives and in communication with vessel / project / discipline management



  • Experience of working with vessel electrical system, power generation, instrumentation
  • Ability to analyse, assess and present direction as well as being able to demonstrate abilities and demonstration of leading small or large teams
  • Proven operational/vessel experience (desirable)
  • Sailing as vessel Electrician or Chief Electrician for a proven period of time (desirable)



  • Physical Capabilities to attend vessels (including via helicopter)
  • Possession of an Offshore Survival and Medical certificate
  • Travels will be required in UK and overseas in all major theatres of operation -Clean driving licence required.
