Structural Engineer

Subsea 7 is looking for a Structural Engineer its office in Lisbon, Portugal.

The role involves working on studies, tenders and projects in a variety of EPCI and/or Transport & Installation Contracts.

Specific Key Responsibilities & Activities

The Structural Engineer will be working with conceptual and detailed design of Subsea Structures as well as Topsides work and Installation Aids.

The person will need to understand Client’s needs, identify and address design parameters and develop and implement possible solutions.

The work will be under the guidance and supervision of an experienced senior or lead engineer.

Main responsibilities will be:

  • Perform design activities of high level of complexity;
  • Perform specific calculation such as seafastening, installation aids and permanent structures design;
  • Take responsibility for production of deliverables, which may include engineering support to the Drawing Office, design calculations, specifications, procedures, analyses, progress reports, bid evaluations, study reports and various 3rd-party submissions;
  • Manage a small package of structures within a project and be responsible for its planning, interfaces and to deliver as expected in time and budget;
  • Check junior and less experienced engineers analysis, design and engineering activities associated with subsea construction and installation;
  • Be a mentor/coach of more Junior Engineers.


Preferred Experience and Education

  • Master Degree in Civil, Mechanics or Marine Engineering (Structural);
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in structural design related activities. Oil and Gas, Subsea equipment or Offshore Renewables knowledge are greatly appreciated;
  • Competency in design and analysis software packages for FEA (Abaqus, Ansys…) and Beam Elements (SACS, NSO/ISYMOST…) is essential;
  • Good knowledge of industry standards;
  • Good knowledge of design codes (AISC, API, ABS, BV, DNV, Eurocodes…);
  • Produces work of presentable quality;
  • Ability to prioritize own and others’ workload, manage time and change control accordingly and direct team members where constraints will affect a project in terms of program or budget;
  • Ability to lead and function team member across multiple projects.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels within the organization;
  • Ability to work within time/budget constraints
  • Demonstrate commitment to Continuing Professional Development.
  • Demonstrate commitment to HSE and Quality;
  • Shall be self-motivated and have well developed interpersonal skills.
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English.
  • Ability to travel to on-shore and offshore sites.
