Project Description

For an offshore wind project in Taiwan we are looking for an onshore Senior Surveyor to support the offshore campaign. The project involves multiple cable lay vessels, offshore and near-shore cable installation & trenching operations.

The person will have an all-encompassing role to cover the project through the execution phase offshore, required for an expected duration of 8 – 12 weeks or longer in liaison, starting in mid-March and involves a 14-day quarantine inbound. Based on 10hr 5-day working week onshore and the country for execution of the role is in Taiwan on various locations, our headquarters in Taipei, marine port in Anping or site office in Taichung. Offshore and port visits/stays on various vessel for short durations are required at times.

Due to current COVID restrictions individuals that can mobilise or are presently in Taiwan and have the requried skills and expereinced detailed are highly desirable as this position will be based in-country for an extended period. 


The person will report to the lead project surveyor (based in Europe) and shall be point of contact for all offshore deliverables and the liaison with local (survey) personnel.

This role requires a person that is flexible and enjoys an array of responsibilities, which will vary from land survey, multibeam surveys, attend meetings and HIRA’s, mobilise small vessels/barges with a survey spread, dimensional control work and setup radio and WiFi telemetry systems.  


  • Point of contact for all offshore deliverables and the liaison for passage of data to document control and client deliverables
  • Ensure procedures are followed both offshore and onshore
  • Assist project team with day to day business related to survey
  • Assist Lead Project Surveyor in reviewing project documentation to ensure the installation methodology is aligned to the client’s requirements
  • Review of all above data delivered from offshore, and acceptance or rejection before passing on for delivery
  • Attend kick-off meetings, HIRAs, mobilisations prior to offshore operations
  • Oversee vessel mobilisations and calibrations (both SOC and subcontractors) and be involved in the QA/QC of results of mobilisation from a survey perspective
  • Assist with alongside logistics with regard to survey equipment being mobilised/demobilised Delivery of data packages and GIS information to vessels as required
  • Conduct occasional mobilisations of small vessels that come onto project and carry out required verifications and checks
  • Conduct shallow water MBES as laid surveys from vessel Hermes IV after shore end pull in
  • Conduct land survey of cable from waterline to substation after cable pull-in
  • Provide technical survey support to project spread, visiting vessels if necessary and ensure that radio and WIFI telemetry is maintained between vessels where required
  • Possibly provide maintenance to weather buoy
  • Possible establish and maintain RTK base station

Required experience

  • Considerable years of experience in subsea pipe/umbilical/cable lay or construction in a similar position
  • Familiar with ROV and subsea positioning, also shallow water
  • Offshore certificates BOSIET and Offshore Medical
  • Good understanding both in writing and verbal of the English language
  • Ability to work alone and without supervision
  • Experience conducting land survey works
  • Pole-mounted multibeam surveys
  • Experience during the Construction Phase of offshore wind projects, including cable lay and burial activities
  • Knowledge of QINSy both online and offline, AutoCAD. QGIS is advantageous
