Seaway 7, the Renewables business unit of Subsea 7, is a highly capable and experienced partner for the delivery of fixed and floating offshore wind farm projects, as well as a provider of specialist heavy lifting and cable installation services.

With combined expertise in project management, engineering, procurement, fabrication, heavy lifting and cable installation services, Seaway 7 can deliver these services in a comprehensive array of contractual structures including engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI), transportation & installation (T&I) and balance of plant (BoP) to our clients in the offshore Renewables sector.

Seaway 7 operates through four divisions;

  • Heavy Lifting
    • T&I of offshore structures for the Renewables sector
  • Offshore Cables
    • T&I of submarine cables & umbilicals for the Renewables sector
    • Engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning (EPIC) of submarine cables for the Renewables sector
    • Trenching and inspection, repair and maintenance related business
  • EPCI Solutions
    • Delivery of EPCI solutions for the Renewables sector
  • Integrated Projects
    • Delivery of integrated Heavy Lifting and Offshore Cables solutions for the Renewables sector

The combination of Heavy Lifting, Offshore Cable installation and EPCI capabilities and expertise, makes Seaway 7 a versatile and highly capable partner of choice for the delivery of your complete offshore projects.

Seaway 7’s services are supported by five dedicated specialist vessels, that are augmented with vessels from Subsea 7’s larger fleet to provide additional support as and when required. The Seaway 7 fleet includes Heavy Lift Vessel Seaway Strashnov, Heavy Lift Vessel Seaway Yudin, Cable-Lay Vessels Seaway Aimery and Seaway Phoenix and Installation Support Vessel Seaway Moxie.

 

BRIEF ROLE DESCRIPTION:

We have a new opportunity for a Principal Structural Engineer to join the business based either in Aberdeen, UK or Zoetermeer, Netherlands.  The focus of the position is to work within the strategic technology programme for offshore wind on the development of novel cost effective fixed offshore wind turbine foundations.

The ideal candidate should have extensive experience of fixed offshore substructure design including offshore wind and a good working knowledge of related disciplines. Experience of leading technology development programmes and in delivering concept studies is preferable.

 

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Role Specific - Responsibilities & Activities

  • Extensive experience in the structural engineering and analysis of offshore and subsea steel structures
  • A proven track record in coordinating structural engineering design teams as an integral part of a multidiscipline project
  • Provides specialist skills, integrity and knowledge in key areas of structural engineering, including design codes, legislative requirements, certification and current good engineering practice.
  • Understands clients' needs; identifies and addresses design parameters and problems; develops and implements solutions.
  • Perform structural engineering from concept design to detailed design.
  • Prepare and review structural design reports.
  • May manage a team of engineers on a project.
  • Liaise with those necessary to comply with the task.
  • Provide guidance to engineers with respect to calculation methods.
  • Undertake responsibility for production of deliverables, which may include preparation and checking of design reports, engineering support to Drawing Office, design calculations, specifications, procedures, analyses, progress reports, bid evaluations, study reports and various third-party submissions.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationship with design consultants, and relevant research bodies.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor and or Master’s Degree (Civil, Structural, Geotechnical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent).
  • Membership of a relevant professional body.
  • Related experience at an appropriate level.
  • Familiarity with recognised industry software for the analysis and design of wind turbine foundations.
  • It is preferable for candidate to be degree qualified in a relevant discipline plus appropriate experience.
  • Relevant previous experience at an appropriate level in the subsea, renewables or offshore environment.
  • Candidates should show a commitment to Continuing Professional Development.
