We are currently seeking an experienced, highly motivated Business Development Manager to join our regional team based at our Westhill, Aberdeen office on a full-time permanent basis. 

Reporting to the Head of Business Development, Market Analysis & Business Planning (MABP) as a key member of the Business Development team you will pro-actively manage the pursuit of future business within the UK region and establish, develop and maintain long-term relationships with key identified clients to ensure that Subsea 7 remains appropriately positioned to respond to and secure business opportunities predominantly in the Subsea Construction and IRM (Inspection, Repair & Maintenance) markets across the offshore energy sector.

  • A comprehensive understanding of the Subsea 7 group service offering and differentiators
  • Responsibility for all business development activities for allocated key accounts
  • Understanding of key account organisations, strategies, opportunities and decision-making processes. Maintain regular contact and develop long-term relationships, communicating our services and capabilities and matching same with clients technical and commercial requirements as they evolve over the lifecycle of a prospect
  • Preparation and management of account plans for allocated key accounts, including client engagement plans to ensure the appropriate frequency is actioned at all levels
  • Capture, quantify and maintain business opportunities for allocated key accounts within both our CRM database (Microsoft Dynamics 365) and Global Vessel Schedule to ensure they accurately reflect scope, timing and proposed technical solution
  • Management and implementation of Pursuit Plans for agreed targets. Development of pre-bid strategies for all identified pursuits. Lead pursuit strategy board reviews with senior and executive level management, providing detailed handover to the tendering team and strategic bidding support throughout the lifecycle of a pursuit.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key industry bodies and supply chain to establish an understanding of the overall market and position Subsea 7 to take advantage of strategic partnerships in support of pursuit objectives and/or regional and group strategy objectives
  • Capture and distribution of relevant information to internal stakeholders following client/industry contact within a Market Contact Report (MCR). Ensure all subsequent actions are executed and closed out satisfactorily
  • A comprehensive understanding of our competitor strategies, capabilities, assets, status and availability regularly monitoring and providing updates to internal stakeholders as required
  • Liaise regularly with Business Unit Directors and Project Managers to obtain an understanding of project performance for key accounts and provide feedback on client relationship
  • Liaise regularly with Global Account Directors to ensure that regional key account information is represented and incorporated in to corporate Global Account Plans
  • Travel as required to support business. Typically short durations.
  • Maintain industry awareness by monitoring press/media and by attending industry conferences, exhibitions and networking events
  • Represent Subsea 7 by hosting client entertainment and participating in industry events as required
  • Help develop and promote regional strategic marketing initiatives to our clients/industry
  • Operate within our Business Management System (BMS) and appropriate Sales & Marketing policies, processes and systems
  • Contribute to creating a positive HSEQ culture within Subsea 7 and ensure familiarity with and adherence to local HSEQ codes and practices

  • Experience working within a sales or new business development environment
  • Extensive knowledge of the offshore energy sector, particularly within the UKCS
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong written and verbal communication skills  
  • Effective influencer with demonstrable experience in building and maintaining positive and professional work and client relationships
  • Solutions based analytical and strategic thinker, with the ability to problem solve and identify effective solutions
  • Ability to prioritise workload and self-manage delivery to internal and customer deadlines
  • Computer literate with well-developed IT skills including but not limited to the Microsoft Office suite 


  • Account management experience, preferably within the subsea sector working directly with offshore energy operators
  • An understanding of Subsea 7's range of capabilities, market position and competitors
  • Competent working with CRM systems, in particular Microsoft Dynamics 365
