Title: Legal Counsel

We are looking for an experienced and skilled Legal Counsel to join our team at either our Aberdeen – UK or Zoetermeer-Netherlands offices on a full time, staff basis.
In the role of Legal Counsel, you will play a vital part in our legal team, collaborating with senior leaders throughout our organization and providing guidance on legal, contractual, and risk issues important to our company. Becoming a valued member of a highly motivated, skilled and supportive legal team with exposure to clients and projects around the world.
What will you be doing?
- Managing projects and processes, working independently with appropriate support / supervision
- Collaborating with our tender teams to secure contract awards: playing an essential role in enhancing our commercial position by assisting in the negotiation and drafting of terms that ensure a just balance of risk and benefit in our contracts
- Identifying and advising our business teams on steps to mitigate contractual and legal risks, both at tender stage and throughout project execution phase, working closely with our contract management teams
- Coaching and reviewing the work of junior legal professionals.
- Drafting, reviewing, negotiating, advising and/or supporting on all matters that require legal input, including in relation to supply chain contracts, frame agreements, vessel charters, confidentiality agreements, bank guarantees, tax and insurance matters and corporate documentation amongst others
- Providing advice and making sure that claims and disputes are addressed effectively to reach beneficial resolutions, including arbitrations/litigations if required
- Providing support on ethics & compliance issues, ensuring that the company’s integrity values are understood and promoted
- Supporting the business’s efforts to improve predictable performance by delivering training to other functions
- The challenges that you face are difficult and often complex. You will be called upon to utilize theories, principles, concepts, and methodologies to formulate innovative solutions
What experience would we like you to have?
- Qualified lawyer - Minimum honours LLB in Law or equivalent English, Scottish, or other common law or civil law qualificatio
- Extensive experience as an in-house counsel with an EPCI contractor or comparable law firm experience (experience in renewables and offshore construction is highly desired)
- Experience in a commercial / contracting environment; reviewing, advising on and negotiating complex tenders involving multiple stakeholders
- Experience of advising on contentious matters and disputes
- Knowledge of standard industry contracts, such as FIDIC, BIMCO and LOGIC as well as knowledge of a variety of contract documentation such as framework agreements, supply contracts, JV’s, consortiums, partnership, NDA’s, etc
- Good understanding of construction terminology, progress calculation methods, programmes of work and project timelines and risks
- Ability to identify risks and propose alternative strategies in order to mitigate risks while accomplishing the preferred path forward for the business
- Skilled at functioning well within a team that interacts across different departments and countries
- Demonstrated capability in managing tasks and the flexibility to respond to evolving priorities
- Ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality
- Positive ethical values and willingness to raise concerns to internal team members
