The Bunker Desk Lead is responsible for the planning, procurement, and coordination of marine fuels across the Seaway7/Subsea7 fleet. The role ensures safe, timely and cost-effective bunker supply that supports vessel operations and project execution.
The position manages the global bunker supplier base, oversees commercial and contractual activities, monitors market developments, and advances process improvements within the bunker management function.
What will you be doing?
Operational Planning & Coordination
- Lead global bunker planning for the fleet, monitoring consumption and forecasting demand.
- Align bunker scheduling with vessel mobilisation, transit, and offshore project timelines.
- Coordinate bunker deliveries and act as the escalation point for operational challenges.
Procurement & Supplier Management
- Source, qualify, and manage bunker suppliers in accordance with SCM policies and standards.
- Execute bunker procurement using approved digital platforms and competitive RFQ processes.
- Build and maintain a reliable, diverse, and compliant supplier network.
- Develop long‑term relationships with suppliers, brokers, and surveyors.
Commercial & Contractual
- Prepare and negotiate bunker contracts, securing competitive commercial and risk positions.
- Manage approvals for fuel grades and specifications.
- Support fuel cost optimisation through relevant pricing tools
- Lead post‑delivery claims, disputes, credit notes, and performance issues.
- Provide accurate cost data and market intelligence to commercial and project teams.
Market & Technology Insights
- Monitor global bunker markets, pricing trends, regulations, and fuel availability.
- Stay informed on alternative fuels (biofuels, LNG, methanol) and emerging decarbonisation technologies.
- Provide strategic recommendations to support fuel transition and emission‑reduction objectives.
Process & Governance
- Support the development of the Bunker Desk into a strategic business function.
- Improve P2P processes and embed lessons learned across regions.
- Maintain KPIs, procedures, templates, and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with the Business Code of Conduct, anti‑corruption rules, and environmental standards.
Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate with Fleet, Operations, Projects, Engineering, Finance, and HSSEQ teams.
- Coordinate technical reviews of fuel quality, specifications, and vessel consumption.
- Serve as the organisation’s focal point for all bunker‑related matters.
What experience would we like you to have?
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical, maritime, logistics, supply chain, or commercial field.
- 10+ years relevant experience, including 5+ years in vessel operations, bunker procurement, or marine supply chain.
- Extensive understanding of offshore operations, vessel management, and regulatory frameworks.
- Seagoing or marine engineering background is valued
Technical & Commercial Skills
- Thorough knowledge of marine fuels, quality standards, sampling, and environmental regulations (IMO, EU ETS, CII).
- Demonstrated negotiation and commercial skills in complex, high‑value procurement.
- Proficient with MS Office; SAP, Ariba, and bunker‑platform experience
- Ability to analyse market data, assess risk, and recommend cost‑efficient strategies.
