We are seeking an experienced Control Systems Engineer to support the design, operation, and continuous improvement of vessel control systems across the fleet and projects.
 

Reporting to the Technical Manager, the Senior Control Systems Engineer is responsible for translating business requirements into scope of works for Subsea7 and Seaway7 owned assets and equipment but also third party supply of control systems, and ensures that design proposals incorporate control systems integrity in accordance with mandatory standards, good engineering practice and reflect the most cost effective solution.  The Control Systems Engineer should have demonstrable experience and knowledge of programming PLC, SCADA, HMI and VSD systems, system design, modifications, upgrades and installation within process control systems.

What will you be doing?

 

  • Provide technical input to system design, modification, upgrades, installation, commissioning, and ongoing support of Control Systems.
  • Participate in the definition, preparation, and execution of FAT and SAT documentation and testing activities, where required.
  • Work with third-party specialist manufacturers and consultancies on the design, maintenance, and auditing of Control Systems to ensure compliance with design specifications.
  • Provide regular progress updates to management on activities within the Control Systems scope.
  • Deliver second-level escalated technical support to vessel personnel, including assistance during breakdowns and maintenance, ensuring management visibility of major issues.
  • Support Vessel Superintendents on a day-to-day basis to ensure Control Systems are maintained to the required standards.
  • Participate in safety design reviews, including Risk Assessments, HAZIDs, HAZOPs, and FME(C)As, and ensure timely close-out of identified actions.
  • Provide input to and review equipment FMEAs.
  • Ensure the Management of Technical Change process is consistently followed.
  • Promote best practices and ensure departmental ways of working are embedded and understood.
  • Actively promote a positive safety culture in the design, installation, and operation of Control Systems.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a wider multidisciplinary team to ensure the highest levels of safety and design integrity.
  • Manage subcontractors and supplier interfaces, and develop and maintain effective relationships with relevant manufacturers and suppliers.
  • Prepare technical specifications and provide support to procurement and purchasing activities.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date Control Systems documentation, including software codes, functional analyses, drawings, and manuals.
  • Monitor and follow up on changes in applicable rules, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Support projects involving interfaces between vessel systems and project systems.
  • Undertake offshore visits when required to verify the correct and safe operation of Control Systems.
  • Provide occasional support to company initiatives and collaborate with the Asset Development Team.
  • Carry out any other duties as directed by the Technical Manager.

 

What experience would we like you to have?

 

  • Experience in programming PLC, SCADA, HMI and VSD systems.
  • Working knowledge of sensors, actuators and interfaces.
  • Working knowledge of ISO9001 and IEC 61508 standards.
  • Understanding of the FMECA process and how this links to Control Systems design.
  • Ability to analyse, assess and present direction as well as being able to demonstrate abilities and demonstration of leading small or large teams.
  • An awareness of relevant international standards, codes and regulations for Marine systems and construction systems would be desirable.
  • Previous experience in an Oil & Gas or Marine background
  • Educated  to degree level with an engineering discipline, but minimum of HBO qualification.
  • Additional qualifications from a professional body.
