1.       DESCRIPTION OF ROLE

Reporting to the GPC&AP Estimating Manager, the Estimating Engineer is responsible for establishing cost estimates and commercial deliverables in accordance with ITT requirements, technical constraints and commercial aspects.


It is a cross-functional role that provides an overview of our business and projects, ideal for technical profiles wishing to acquire commercial and project management support skills.

Based in Sutton office or Paris Office, the Estimating Engineer position requires potential travels to other Subsea7 Regions worldwide (including Asia, Australia, Nigeria…) for short or mid-term assignments. 

2.       KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Build up cost estimates for commercial proposals, respecting internal rules and procedures (between 1 and 1,500 MUSD).
  • Develop the execution plan with the Project Manager (Tender Lead) and the Tender Engineer (Commercial Lead) for the purpose of having a complete, accurate and optimized cost estimate.
  • Do cost simulations to evaluate alternatives (J-lay versus Reel Lay, flexible versus rigid, etc.) supporting the tender team in establishing the most cost effective solution(s).
  • Take into account deliverables issued by all departments involved in Tender and clarify where necessary (Project Management, Engineering, SCM including Fabrication + Chartering + Transit and Logistics, Operations, Tax, Legal, Risk); also provide information upfront as may be required by these departments for establishing their deliverables, in close collaboration with the Tender Lead and the Commercial Lead.
  • Contribute to all the initiatives supporting our new ways of working, aiming at generating better offers (based on a strong relationship and seamless communication between Estimating <> SCM <> Engineering)
  • Prepare the commercial deliverables for our proposals, especially the price schedules for the Lump Sum, options and unit rates.
  • Do the analysis of project expenses and revenue over time in order to obtain favorable payment conditions in the contract (cash flow).
  • Implement cost impacts during the contract clarification and negotiation phase.
  • Do a cost analysis of the products on the project.
  • Handover to the project in case of contract award.
  • Reach out to the required stakeholders to have a good understanding of Tax rules, company rates

4.     PROFILE – KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND BEHAVIOURS

  • Good management of Excel is required.
  • Precision and attention to detail is required
  • An experience in Estimating and/or Project Services background in similar industries is a plus.
  • Good understanding of Subsea7’s product and activities is a plus.
  • Proactive, thorough and curious.
  • Rigorous. Costing control and quality is a key focus area, requiring a combination of sense of prioritization and attention to detail.
  • Available and flexible.
  • Team player and transparent work method: care for others, engage with others, support others.
  • Ethical and can be trusted with confidential information.
  • Ability to take an overall view and critical mind
