  1. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF ROLE

The Technology Development Project Engineer is in charge of performing calculations and studies, and issuing technical deliverables in conformance with agreed schedule, budget and quality requirements, under the authority of lead engineers.

The engineer is part of the GPC&AP Technology Development Team which develops products not only for the Oil & Gas industry (typ. subsea pipelines and structures) but also for the offshore energy market in general (renewable energy, hydrogen, CCUS).

  1. POSITION OVERVIEW – KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES

Business Analysis: Is curious about the offshore energy industry and assists lead engineers and strategic technology development managers in the analyses of the market to define roadmaps, trends and business cases, incl. data analysis supporting decision-making.

Networking and Scouting: Networks with potential clients, suppliers and universities and supports the leads on any partnership to develop. Promotes his/her work internally and externally in papers and conferences. Interfaces with the internal engineering teams and experts to complement his/her expertise for technology development.

Creativity and Innovation: Is able to innovate and to materialize conceptual ideas in technology development projects to be executed, with potential support from lead engineers. Performs technical review, bibliographic research for preliminary study of a TD project. Identifies knowledge gaps that necessitate work. Support all technology initiatives in the Group.

Technology Development Process: Executes work packages by preparing, delivering, and checking technology development deliverables under his/her responsibility in compliance with projects management rules and group procedures. Use the validated computer tools and suggests new acquisitions. Participates in testing campaigns as required. Assists the preparation and performance of engineering reviews to validate deliverables and conclusions of technology development projects with experts and/or other engineering parties. Provides timely input and forecast to his/her lead engineers for Project Monthly Report (PMR).

Technology Commercialisation, Product Marketing: Is able to communicate with simple words about technology. Assists his/her lead engineers to support projects in their first adoption of a new technology and in the establishment of “product/services team” to widen usage and commercial adoption of a new technology.

  1. PERSON SPECIFICATION

Preferred Experience and Education

  • MSc (typ. in innovation and/or technology management and/or subsea engineering and/or fluid mechanics and/or solid/structural mechanics and/or electrical design)
  • More than 5 years of experience, preferably in a technology development environment
  • Relevant previous experience in supplier and 3rd party management

Skills and Knowledge

  • Able to undertake responsibility for production of engineering deliverables of multi-disciplined systems, which may include engineering support to design calculations, specifications, procedures, analyses, study reports…
  • Proven problem solver and capable of innovative thinking on multi-disciplined systems
  • Strong communication skills (oral, written and electronic) incl. fluent English
  • Technical knowledge of the SURF & conventional offshore market and/or subsea engineering and/or the offshore energy sector
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards for technology development typically DNV-RP-A203 and API RP 17N – Annex E
