OVERVIEW OF ROLE

Subsea 7 has exciting opportunities for Subsea Umbilical and Flexible Pipeline Engineers within the Global Project Centre (GPC) Engineering Team based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The Subsea Umbilical and Flexible Pipeline Engineer will be responsible for providing technical expertise and support to procurement of soft products (umbilical’s and flexible pipelines/risers/jumpers) and their ancillaries in compliance with codes, Subsea 7 requirements and Client specifications. This engineer will report to the Riser Design, Installation Analysis, Flexibles and Umbilical (RIAU) Discipline Manager and will be assigned to projects and tenders when required.

 

Specific Key Activities & Responsibilities

  • Prepare specification, technical scope of work and provide technical support to procurement of flexible / umbilical and flexible / umbilical ancillaries
  • Manage the flexible interfaces (connectors, goosenecks, I/J-tubes)
  • Prepare technical project documents (e.g. analysis reports and specifications)
  • Interface with project / tender team and support other engineering disciplines to ensure smooth interface with procurement, installation, operation and project management
  • Consolidating experience within the flexible support group discipline
  • Perform checking of engineering work and reports
  • Check or perform In-place analysis (not to exceed loads, routing)
  • Check or perform installation analysis (flexible / umbilical lay, recovery, transfer, pull-in, etc)
  • Provide technical skills, knowledge in project or discipline engineering, including design codes and Client specifications
  • Understands client’s needs
  • Involvement with production of deliverables, including support to the drawing office, specifications, bid evaluations, etc.
  • Adhere to Subsea 7 values
  • Provide technical assistance in preparation of client / subcontractors’ meetings.
  • Assist junior / graduate engineers as appropriate

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Experience, Skills and Knowledge

  • Professional qualifications: BEng or above
  • Proven experience within SURF industry working for SURF Contractor, Flexible/Umbilical Manufacturer or Consultancy – fresh graduates are NOT considered for these positions
  • Relevant experience in umbilical and or flexible pipeline design, fabrication, or installation
  • Good knowledge of industry standards
  • Able to work in teams
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence to liaise with clients
  • Excellent report writing skills with the ability to self-check and produce accurate work
  • Ability to priorities and organize work
  • Ability to communicate at all levels within the organization
  • A demonstrable commitment to HSE and Quality
  • Shall be self-motivated and have well developed interpersonal skills
  • A willingness to travel on short assignments overseas

 

Desirable Experience, Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of a design and analysis software
  • Membership to a relevant Professional body
  • Experience in design, installation and construction of offshore pipelines, flexibles, umbilical, flying leads and risers
  • Knowledge of hydrodynamic physics
  • Knowledge of material engineering
