POSITION OVERVIEW

Subsea 7 are looking for a Control Systems Engineer to work within Offshore Resources, Fleet & Equipment on a full-time, permanent basis in our Westhill, Aberdeen office.

This is an excellent opportunity to join the Technical & Engineering team supporting an advanced, modern fleet of Offshore Support Vessels, spanning across many regions and sectors within the business. Reporting to the DP/Electrical Technical Authority, the Control Systems Engineer is responsible for translating business requirements into scope of works for Subsea 7 owned assets and equipment but also third party supply of control systems, and ensures that design proposals incorporate control systems integrity in accordance with mandatory standards, good engineering practice and reflect the best cost effective solution.  The Control Systems Engineer should have demonstrable experience and knowledge of programming PLC, SCADA, HMI and VSD systems, system design, modifications, upgrades and installation within process control systems.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for providing inputs into system design, modification, upgrade, installation, commissioning and ongoing technical support.
  • Participates in the definition of appropriate FAT and SAT documentation and participate in the testing activities, where required.
  • Works with third party specialist manufacturers and consultancies for the design, maintenance and audit of Control Systems to ensure the Control Systems meet the design specification.
  • Provides progress updates to the management pertaining to the scope of work within the Control Systems remit.
  • Required to provide second level escalated technical support to vessel personnel.
  • Participates in carrying out safety design reviews including Risk Assessment, HAZIDs, HAZOPs, FME(C)A and ensure close out of identified action items.
  • Ensure that the Management of Technical Change process is always followed.
  • Involved in defining best practices.
  • Where necessary, the responsibility includes offshore trips in order to validate the correct and safe operation of the relevant Control Systems.
  • Actively promote a positive safety attitude in relation to the design and operation of Control Systems.
  • Work as part of a larger team to ensure that Control Systems are designed and installed at the highest levels of safety and design integrity.
  • Manage subcontractors and supplier interfaces.
  • Provide technical assistance in connection with breakdowns and maintenance as well as escalated second-level technical support to relevant vessel personnel, ensuring that management is always aware of all ongoing major issues.
  • Daily assistance to Vessel Superintendents in order to assure that Control systems are maintained to relevant standard.
  • Preparation of specifications and assistance with purchasing.
  • Maintaining files and records of control systems documentation packages (codes, functional analysis, drawings, manuals).
  • Provide inputs and review equipment FMEAs.
  • Follow up changes in rules and regulations.
  • Develop and maintain relationship with manufacturer/suppliers of relevant equipment.
  • Support projects in interface between vessel systems and project systems.
  • Any other duties as directed by the DP & Electrical Technical Authority.
  • Ensure department ways of working are embedded and understood.
  • Occasional Support with company initiatives and collaboration with Asset Development Team.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPEREINCE

  • Educated preferred to a preferred degree level with an engineering discipline, but minimum of HNC qualification.
  • Additional qualifications from a professional body.
  • Previous experience in an Oil & Gas or Marine background is desirable.
  • Experience in programming PLC, SCADA, HMI and VSD systems.
  • Working knowledge of sensors, actuators and interfaces.
  • Working knowledge of ISO9001 and IEC 61508 standards.
  • Understanding of the FMECA process and how this links to Control Systems design.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Ability to analyse, assess and present direction as well as being able to demonstrate abilities and demonstration of leading small or large teams.
  • An awareness of relevant international standards, codes and regulations for Marine systems and construction systems would be desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Adaptable and pro-active with a structures and methodical approach to tasks, with ability to deliver under pressure.
  • Solutions based with excellent planning and organisational skills, approaches tasks in a structured and methodical manner.
