Structural Engineer

BUSINESS UNIT: Subsea 7 AMEC

REPORTS TO: Structural Lead

OFFICE LOCATION: Lisbon - Portugal

We provide project management, engineering, and construction expertise across the full field lifecycle. These services are delivered within three operational business units: Subsea and Conventional, Life of Field, and Renewables and Heavy Lifting.

Within Africa, Middle East & Caspian region (AMEC), we safely execute Subsea and Conventional projects which connect seabed wellhead infrastructures to surface facilities such as platforms and floating production systems. We are actively present in a significant number of countries in Africa, Europe, Caspian Sea, Middle East and Asia.

DESCRIPTION OF FUNCTION

Within the framework of our Projects in the AMEC region, we are looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to join our AMEC Structural Engineering Department, in Lisbon office, Portugal.

The role involves working on studies, tenders and projects in a variety of EPCI and/or Transport & Installation Contracts.

You will be responsible for working with conceptual and detailed design of Subsea Structures as well as Topsides work and Installation Aids. The person will need to understand Client’s needs, identify and address design parameters and develop and implement possible solutions. The work will be under the guidance and supervision of an experienced Lead Engineer.

All personnel are expected to contribute to creating a positive HSEQ culture within Subsea 7 and ensure familiarity with and adherence to local HSEQ codes and practices.

SPECIFIC KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES

  • You take responsibility for design activities of high level of complexity;
  • Perform specific calculation such as seafastening, installation aids and permanent structures design;
  • You take responsibility for production of deliverables, which may include engineering support to the Drawing Office, design calculations, specifications, procedures, analyses, progress reports, bid evaluations, study reports and various 3rd-party submissions;
  • Manage a small package of structures within a project and be responsible for its planning, interfaces and to deliver as expected in time and budget;
  • Check junior and less experienced engineers analysis, design and engineering activities associated with subsea construction and installation;
  • Be a mentor/coach of more Junior Engineers.

AUTHORITY / DIMENSIONS:

  • Operate within the Business Code of Conduct and Ethics Policy Statement.
  • Operate according to Subsea 7's Management Principles.
  • Support standards and procedures for the Engineering Function.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS / STAKEHOLDERS:

External:

  • Subcontractors and suppliers for engineering and procurement activity.
  • Clients for Technical Reviews, and input into tenders and studies.
  • Relevant professional bodies and institutions of learning.

Internal:

  • Project Managers / Directors
  • Engineering Department Managers
  • Project Engineering Managers
  • HSEQ, Supply Chain Management, Project Controls and Planning Managers
  • Engineering Compliance

PROFILE:

  • Graduated with an Engineering Degree in Civil (Structural), Mechanics or Marine Engineering;
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in structural design related activities. Oil and Gas, Subsea equipment or Offshore Renewables knowledge are greatly appreciated;
  • Competency in design and analysis software packages for FEA (Abaqus, Ansys…) and Beam Elements (SACS, NSO/ISYMOST…) is essential;
  • Good knowledge of industry standards;
  • Good knowledge of design codes (AISC, API, ABS, BV, DNV, Eurocodes…);
  • Produces work of presentable quality;
  • Ability to prioritize own and others’ workload, manage time and change control accordingly and direct team members where constraints will affect a project in terms of program or budget;
  • Ability to lead and function team member across multiple projects.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels within the organization;
  • Ability to work within time/budget constraints
  • Demonstrate commitment to Continuing Professional Development.
  • Demonstrate commitment to HSE and Quality;
  • Shall be self-motivated and have well developed interpersonal skills.
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English.
  • Ability to travel to on-shore and offshore sites.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Majority of the work is carried out Subsea 7 Lisbon Office,
  • Requirement for some international travel,
  • Offshore/Off-site location during project execution phases as required.
