Principal Engineer
LOCATION: Singapore

We provide project management, engineering and construction expertise across the full field lifecycle. These services are delivered within three operational business units: Subsea and Conventional, Life of Field, and Renewables and Heavy Lifting.

Within Africa, Middle East & Caspian region (AMEC), we safely execute Subsea and Conventional projects which connect seabed wellhead infrastructures to surface facilities such as platforms and floating production systems. We are actively present in a significant number of countries in Africa, Europe, Caspian Sea, Middle East and Asia.

 

OVERVIEW OF ROLE

Reporting to an Engineering Manager or Senior Engineering Manager, the Principal Engineer will have responsibility for a particular discipline area and/or planning and coordinating the technical expertise and services required to ensure successful delivery of high quality engineering to meet commercial and technical needs.

He/She is expected to improve the specific discipline work processes and be a technical governance for the Discipline.

The scope will include studies and tenders as well as live projects.

All personnel are expected to contribute to creating a positive HSEQ culture within Subsea 7 and ensure familiarity with and adherence to local HSEQ codes and practices.

 

SPECIFIC KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES

  • Provides specialist skills, integrity and knowledge in key areas of discipline engineering, including design codes, legislative requirements and current good engineering practice.
  • Understands clients' needs; identifies and addresses design parameters and problems; develops and implements solutions.
  • Ensures project and HS&E compliance and adherence to project budget & schedule.
  • Under own supervision, independently evaluates, organises and prioritises work.
  • Undertakes responsibility for production of deliverables, which may include engineering support to the Drawing Office, design calculations, specifications, procedures, analyses, progress reports, bid evaluations, study reports and various 3rd-party submissions.
  • Signs and issues technical documentation as originator or checker, accepting personal responsibility for its adequacy.
  • Ensures all relevant safety objectives and legal requirements are observed.
  • Trains / mentors more junior engineers.
  • May manage a team of engineers on a project or within a discipline.

Additional responsibilities/activities specific to the appropriate Engineering Centre and Project/Discipline role may be added as applicable. For example:

  • Operate within standardised engineering policies, processes and systems such that engineering across the Discipline is effective and quality driven
  • Support the Engineering Director in the development of Engineering Standards that capture our intellectual assets, technical and operational experience.
  • Promote Knowledge Management, actively engage with others in the Discipline and the subject Seminars with emphasis on innovation and development
  • Actively engage with ‘Sales and Marketing’ teams to capitalise on innovation and technology development Identify technology gaps, develop and submit plans to address
  • Plan and submit annual budgets for executing Discipline specific technology development projects
  • Establish and maintain close contact with research institutions and technology development within the Discipline
  • Assist in developing and maintaining the technology development plan
  • Identify key Supply Chain Management commodity strategies related to the Discipline

ROLE PROFILE

  • Support the Engineers Competence Development Scheme (ECDS) & Graduate Engineer Development Scheme (GEDS)
  • Agree and monitor performance objectives with direct reports
  • Actively engage in Project Expert Committees (PECs) and project risk assessment/ mitigation processes
  • Undertake, and check others’, analysis, design and engineering activities associated with the Discipline. Design and detailing in accordance with acknowledged industry Codes, Standards and Design Guides; Client Specifications and Scopes of Work.
  • Liaise with associated subsea related disciplines and work with the interfaces within a project
  • Provide technical engineering support to other departments within the Engineering Centre.
  • Promote personal CPD (continuing professional development) through regular engagement with the professional engineering community.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Ability to lead and function within a design team and across multiple projects.
  • Ability to prioritise own and others’ workload, manage time accordingly and inform team members where constraints will affect a project in terms of programme or budget.
  • Manage interfaces within a project structure, including other disciplines, drawing office, document control, project management, client and suppliers.
  • Manage change control within own remit on a project. Inform team members where constraints will affect a project in terms of programme or budget.
  • Demonstrable ability to work within time/budget constraints
