1.         GENERAL DESCRIPTION

         The fundamental purpose of our business is safe and efficient project delivery. The GoM Region is known for having a varied client base that execute projects not just locally, but globally with a wide spread of project scope and complexity.

         To ensure successful subsea project outcomes, front end activities must be carried out in a robust manner to ensure early strategic decisions are of high confidence that the optimum solution is selected and developed.

         Subsea 7 Houston has established a Field Development Group (FDG) modelled on the successful implementation of similar Groups in other regions. We will review development options, provide the Client with indicative costs and schedules, identify key risks and opportunities and provide recommendations and alternate options where appropriate.

         Many studies will be performed in close collaboration with our alliance partner (OneSubsea) with approval of client.

         The Field Development Group in Houston networks with our peers in other Subsea 7 offices around the globe, so that we can leverage and include best practices and lesson learned.  Further, we will seek out new technologies that can be brought to the table to bolster our commitment of robust, cost effective and reliable solutions for our clients.

 

         The Field Development Group shall

  • provide the technical input as well as cost basis for all studies and (pre)FEED proposals;
  • provide technical support on paid and unpaid studies;
  • provide technical support to our Subsea Integration Alliance partner as and when required;
  • provide technical support to Subsea 7 Business Development Department in Houston, when engaging with clients in the early stages of a development;
  • provide technical support for concept/select studies and pre-FEED, FEED, Detailed Design as well as pre-commissioning work in support of the GoM Regional Strategy.

 

         The Field Development Engineering Specialist (Flow Assurance) will be assigned various tasks by the Field Development Director in support of the overall strategy and requirements of the Field Development Group.

2.         KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

2.1.     Project/Tender Delivery

  • Provides specialist skills, integrity and knowledge in key areas of discipline engineering, including design codes, legislative requirements and current good engineering practice.
  • Understands clients' needs; identifies and addresses design parameters and problems; develops and implements solutions
  • Deliver the technical input as well as support establishing the cost basis for all studies and (pre)FEED, FEED proposals.
  • Support the Field Development Group to deliver the technical strategy with regards to client needs on tenders and projects, and measure Subsea 7 performance targets.
  • Undertakes responsibility for production of deliverables, which may include engineering support to specifications, procedures, analyses, progress reports, bid evaluations, study reports and various 3rd-party submissions
  • Manage any resource assigned by the Engineering Department and other functions as and where applicable and needed for the successful execution of studies and projects.
  • As and when required by the Field Development Director, may be required to act as Study Manager on a small study.
  • Review own work and work performed by resources assigned on a continuous basis, to ensure that
    • The technical scope is being delivered in accordance with the budget and schedule
    • The technical scope is being delivered to the quality standards expected within Subsea 7 and addressing the specific needs and expectations of the client.
    • Risks are being identified and mitigation strategies put in place.
    • Opportunities are being captured and recorded appropriately.
    • An efficient resolution is developed for technical issues slowing progress and/or affecting performance. As appropriate drive higher level management support and actions.
    • Lessons learned are captured and recorded appropriately.
  • Ensure the project is in compliance with the requirements of the BMS ensuring the BMS procedures and processes are understood.
  • All work performed by any member of the Field Development Group shall be stored in appropriate library on the Field Development Group SharePoint site or other project specific (Business Unit) SharePoint site.
  • Foster a strong HSEQ culture within the teams.
  • Encourage use of the Lessons Learned and Synergy systems for continuous improvement.
  • Provide input to tenders and project technical proposals as required.
  • Attendance at Design Reviews, HIRA’s and Project Meetings as required.
  • Ensure appropriate review is performed on specific project issues, ensuring the engagement of the wider organization such as the COE network, etc as may be appropriate.
  • Ensure that the technical processes have the correct interfaces with other processes in the BU (e.g. SCM, Project Control, HSEQ, etc).
  • Identify and provide solutions for common technical project issues.

2.2.     Departmental/Business

  • Field Development Director shall be informed of progress on all ongoing activities as well as communications with other functions in the company.
  • Contribute to a positive and proactive working environment within the Field Development Group that encourages team working (Collaboration), a spirit of openness, honesty and integrity.
  • Support the Field Development Group in all of its activities as directed and required by the Field Development Director.
  • As directed and required by the Field Development Director, support the formation and continuous growth of the business for the Field Development Group and Subsea 7 alliance with OneSubsea.
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with the Engineering Department in Houston, ensuring that:
    • Engineering resource needs for studies and projects are communicated in a timely manner;
    • Progress and performance issues are discussed and addressed appropriately by the Engineering Department;
  • Maintain strong working relationship with the other function in Houston to ensure a consistent approach across the entire GoM business and to foster a problem solving mentality, capitalize on synergies, and capture lessons learned.
  • Ensure correct use of the overall technical support disciplines and feedback to these.

3.       AUTHORITY/DIMENSIONS

  • Utilize resources assigned to studies and projects, within the budget assigned for those studies and projects.
  • Operate within legal framework, budgets and safety procedures.
  • Operate within Subsea 7’s Management System, policies and strategy.

4.       INTERFACES

4.1.     External Interfaces

  • In support of the Business Development Function provide the technical support to any Business Development activities, identifying opportunities as well as provide technical feedback to clients as and when needed.
  • When working on a study or project, support the study or Project Manager in managing the interface with the client.
  • Supporting our alliance partner, providing Subsea 7 technical support as and when required as directed by the Field Development Director.

4.2.     Internal Interfaces

  • Within the Field Development Group, ensure proper information flow and sharing.
  • Engineering Department when utilizing engineering resources.
  • Client Account Managers and Global Account Managers in support of Business Development activities.
  • Finance Function / Project Control Services, ensuring appropriate cost and budget control on studies and projects being managed.
  • Any other functions within Subsea 7 in Houston (Marketing, Commercial, BUs, etc.), in support of the ongoing successful operation of Subsea 7.

 

5.       CAPABILITY PROFILE – Flow Assurance

5.1.     Education/Qualifications

  • 8+ years of industry experience,
  • Candidate will have a university degree in Petroleum, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering,
  • It is preferable that candidates can demonstrate a commitment to Continuing Professional Development activities.

5.2.     Skills

  • Technical:
    • Candidates should be computer literate and familiar with Microsoft office.
    • Well versed in the use and application of OLGA, PipeSim, Multiflash and PVTSim.
    • Strong ability and track record building efficient steady state and transient models, analysing issues and helping to develop solutions. 
    • Must be able to turn the work performed into reports and presentations that are easily understood by others and convey to an audience the relevant issues and how they can be mitigated. 
    • Good presentation and report writing skills for communicating complex technical issues, should be able to sort through large amounts of data or large amounts of results and be able to identify parameters that are more important for a particular technical issue. Should be able to sort through large sets of results to get to answer for a given problem.
    • Experience working with little information is also desired, should be comfortable making assumptions based on experience and good engineering judgement if data is not available. Feels comfortable discussing assumptions with peers and rationale for the selection of such assumptions.
    • Proven experience in building screening tools/models to sort through various concept options expeditiously to allow for quick CAPEX models to be produced.  
    • Must demonstrate a strong understanding of the issues faced by the Operators and be able to interpret/address their drivers and concerns. Demonstrate an understanding of the OPEX issues and how these can be mitigated via various technologies and operational philosophies.

 

  • Interpersonal:
    • Sound communication skills; oral, written and electronic.
    • Self-Management  -  Ability to prioritise workload, manage time and direct team members (when assigned) where constraints will affect a project in terms of program or budget. Ability to discuss concerns or issues (technical or personal) with the FDG Director, Project Manager or Field Development Manager that may impact the delivery of the work, deadlines or results.
    • Ability to manage interfaces within a project structure, including other disciplines, document control, project management, client and suppliers.
    • Strong understanding of the system design and team approach.  Understanding of the interdependency of the various elements and the required interfaces to support the whole solution.
    • Flexibility and growth mindset to learn new tools, ways of working and processes specific to Subsea 7 and to the FDG.

5.3.     Experience and Behaviour

  • It is essential that candidates must have 8+ years of progressive Flow Assurance Engineering Experience with demonstrated focus in deep water development for both green and brown field developments. 
  • Technical knowledge and experience supporting design of SURF projects and working in multidiscipline teams.
  • Management of relevant HSEQ activities.

6.       WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical environment:

  • Majority of the work is carried out in the local office site in Houston, Texas.
  • Requirement for occasional travel to Clients or other Company offices or sites.
  • Working hours according to local regulations and Company's policy.
