Senior Draftsman
Location: Sharjah- UAE

We provide project management, engineering and construction expertise across the full field lifecycle. These services are delivered within three operational business units: Subsea and Conventional, Life of Field, and Renewables and Heavy Lifting.

Within Africa, Middle East & Caspian region (AMEC), we safely execute Subsea and Conventional projects which connect seabed wellhead infrastructures to surface facilities such as platforms and floating production systems. We are actively present in a significant number of countries in Africa, Europe, Caspian Sea, Middle East and Asia.

 

Role Overview

The Senior Draftsman is responsible for overseeing the work of a drafting team and for producing drawings and sketches consistent with good engineering practice and in compliance with company drawing office procedures.

All personnel are expected to contribute to creating a positive HSEQ culture within Subsea 7 and ensure familiarity with and adherence to local HSEQ codes and practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide focal point for all project communication and activities and ensure the delivery of quality work and services in line with project plans.
  • Identify and communicate project resource requirements to the Drawing Office Supervisor or Manager. Assess project resource requests and provide feedback on feasibility in terms of deliverables and timescales given resources available.
  • Undertake checking of others work in a project or department environment.
  • Independently evaluate, organise and prioritise work for self and others.
  • Ensure project team adhere to the Business Management System (BMS) and PM7.
  • Participate in technical audits of projects and studies.
  • Actively participate in relevant training and development to pursue continuing professional development. Participate in reviews and development of departmental procedures and work methods.
  • Provide input for project CTR estimates for project drafting team when required.
  • Interface with project discipline leads to ensure CAD deliverable schedule is being met and budget is on track.
  • Ensure project team comply with company QA and HSE procedures.
  • Responsible for ensuring that design services comply with company standards and processes in line with appropriate legislation.
  • Manage internal and external Drawing Office project interfaces.
  • Assist development of standard project deliverables and efficiencies.
  • Ensure adequate Drawing Office input to applicable procurement activities.
  • Support induction and training programme for junior employees and new starts through mentoring. Support development and management of apprentice recruitment and training where applicable. Encourage awareness of department capabilities and competencies.
  • Support development of department structure and succession planning.
  • Encourage awareness and reporting of project variations amongst all department employees.
  • Encourage recording of lessons learned and Opportunities for Improvement (OFIs) to assist in improved company systems and services.
  • Help ensure efficiency and quality by producing drawings and sketches consistent with good engineering practice
  • Operate within standardised engineering policies, processes and systems

Role Profile

  • Gain and maintain familiarity with relevant codes and standards used in the drafting work carried out Liaise directly with Project Engineers on installation drawings and sketches
  • Agree and monitor performance objectives with direct reports and identify areas for performance improvement and any adjustments to organisation, tools, processes and people as necessary
  • Ensure engineering capitalises from lessons learned and is performed in accordance with engineering standards, striving to mitigate risk, promoting safety and integrity consistently
  • Support and maintain engineering control systems to effectively monitor and improve the level and quality of management reporting, planning and forecasting to ultimately allow effective benchmarking and active forecasting of project costs

Requirements

  • Ability to lead and function within a design team and across multiple projects.
  • Ability to prioritise own and others’ workload, manage time accordingly and inform team members where constraints will affect a project in terms of programme or budget.
  • Ability to manage interfaces within a project structure, including other disciplines, drawing office, document control, project management, client and suppliers.
  • Ability to manage change control within own remit on a project.
  • Inform team members where constraints will affect a project in terms of programme or budget.
