OVERVIEW OF ROLE

The Field Engineer is the center of expertise for the vessel equipment characteristics and for the vessel operational capabilities. The Field Engineer shall become familiar with all aspects of the assigned vessel installation systems and techniques.

The Field Engineer provides assistance to the project in preparation of its execution on-board the vessel, check the equipment before and during the mobilization, and support the project offshore. The Field Engineer may also work onshore on occasions supporting projects and operations department. Typical risk and readiness reviews, developing project and operational documentation.

The position as Field Engineer will report to Operations Manager within Norway Operations function. The position is based on an offshore/leave/office rotation. Typical rotation is 5-5 weeks offshore-leave.

Role will be allocated to Construction Vessel operated from Norway supporting the SURF segment, however the vessel works worldwide.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide projects with support during both onshore preparation and offshore phases
  • Ensure all Standard Operating Procedures for the vessel are kept up to date and communicated to upcoming projects
  • Track and update vessel schedule norms and as built timings for future reference
  • Act as the point of contact between the oncoming project and the vessel to ensure that engineering has been conducted taking into account vessel installation preferences and limitations
  • Become totally familiar with the vessel's capability and ensure all engineering documentation and drawings appropriate to the vessel systems are maintained on-board to reflect the current status of the vessel
  • Promote an efficient and cost-effective use of the vessel spread to all tenders and projects
  • Assist tender teams as required
  • Develop and maintain SOPs/Vessel Data Booklet/MDR/Vessel Task Plans
  • Become familiar with legal / internal standards
  • Provide engineering design and calculation services appropriate to modifications/developments of the shipboard systems
  • Keep up-to-date drawings of the ship and its installation system configurations for each project and provide this information to future project users of the asset. Give feedback of changes to the Vessel Operation Manager and appropriate engineering disciplines
  • Ensure accurate records are maintained as required by legislation/Subsea 7 Policy (Loler, Wire assurance, Load tests.)
  • Identify and communicate problem areas arising on aspects of the systems and/or improvement to increase the safety and efficiency of the installation processes
  • Actively participate in Project HSE processes
  • Contribute to develop good routines and methods for project-to-project transition planning with focus on optimizing schedules, port call planning and identifying synergies between projects
  • Contribute to maintaining the Vessel Operations Share Point site, keeping all data up to date for projects at all times
  • Identifying improvements to the engineering process

Capability profile - knowledge, skills, experience and behavior:

  • Engineering degree or equivalent qualifications
  • Minimum 2-4 years’ experience in an installation/operation role in the Oil and Gas industry preferred
  • Offshore experience on-board subsea construction or Life of Field vessels would be beneficial
  • Capability to interface with personnel at all levels internal to the project and the operations group
  • Communication and team working skills are essential with a high degree of motivation
  • Promotion of good working practices and ethics according to Subsea 7 standards
  • Ability to write technical specifications and reports
  • Flexible, proactive and self-driven engineer
