POSITION OVERVIEW

Subsea7 has an opportunity for a Projects & Operations focused Tax Advisor based in its Sutton office in the UK. The successful candidate will be supporting UK entities in the Subsea and Conventional business unit in respect of tax aspects of operations undertaken globally, but with particular focus on activities in Northern Europe.

Reporting into one of the Group’s Sutton based Tax Directors, the successful candidate will provide tax planning and compliance support in respect of tendering activities and the project life cycle, as well as input on a range of legal, commercial and treasury issues.

Candidates will have been trained in, and have significant experience of working in, a UK tax environment. Although detailed technical knowledge of non-UK taxing regimes is not a pre-requisite, a strong grounding in International Tax principles and experience of working with double tax treaties is a requirement.

This is a great opportunity for a candidate looking to develop their business partnering skills across a range of tax and commercial issues. The role requires extensive liaison with, and management of, internal stakeholders, as well as management of external advisors and communication with tax authorities.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provision of clear, practical and business focused tax advice to the tender teams in relation to anticipated tax costs, compliance obligations and other tax aspects associated with tenders
  • Input as to the optimal tax structure for operating in new jurisdictions, taking into consideration any legal and treasury constraints, and management of the associated tax compliance
  • A hands-on approach to ensuring that tax registrations are completed, renewed, or closed out in a timely manner depending on the level and status of activities and prospects in any given jurisdiction
  • Ensuring relevant tax processes and procedures are documented, and maintained up to date, including transfer pricing ‘local’ file and intercompany agreements preparation.
  • Assessing, monitoring and reporting on the tax risk profile of on-going projects
  • Quarterly and Year End tax reporting under IFRS for relevant entities
  • Liaison with external advisors, or the in-house Compliance & Reporting Team, regarding the preparation and submission of monthly, quarterly and annual tax returns, as required.
  • Assisting with tax enquiries and audits, including responding to information requests
  • Liaison with the Treasury and Finance teams and other key stakeholders
  • Helping implement specific projects, including entity reduction plans, and internal restructurings

Qualifications, Experience and Skillsets

  • A professional (chartered) accounting or tax qualification, or equivalent relevant degree
  • In addition to a specialist knowledge of UK corporate tax, ideally a general working knowledge of personal and indirect tax, and an ability to demonstrate a good understanding of the principles of International Taxation.
  • Practical experience of dealing with entity registrations and permanent establishments in an international environment.
  • Ability to work well in a team
  • Self-starter, willing to take ownership of tasks and drive these to completion. Candidates should be able to work without direct supervision and to solve problems using own initiative.
  • Positive, energetic, practical with strong interpersonal skills
  • A clear and effective communicator; strong written and verbal communication in English. Second languages beneficial.
  • High professional standards and attention to detail and accuracy
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity
