Rigid Pipeline Design Engineer

Location: Lisbon- Portugal

ROLE DESCRIPTION 

Subsea 7 is looking for a Rigid Pipeline Design Engineer for its office in Portugal.

The role involves providing design engineering analyses on studies, tenders and projects in a variety of EPCI contracts. It may include design specifications and follow up of specific suppliers.

The Engineer will also contribute to the development of the discipline through various work on Technology development and / or continuous improvements.

 

Specific Key Responsibilities & Activities

The Engineer will be working under the guidance from a Lead or a Principal Engineer within the discipline.

  • Provides specialist skills in key areas of subsea pipeline engineering, including mechanical and integrity calculations for offshore pipelines in accordance with acknowledged industry codes, standards, and client specifications.
  • Has responsibility for production of his/her own deliverables and responsibility over packages, which may include rigid pipeline in-place design calculations, specifications, material take-off, progress reports, bid evaluations, study reports and various 3rd-party submissions.
  • Understands the interfaces or the discipline scope within project environment and responsible of the planning of his / her Scope of Work.
  • External interface with subcontractors and suppliers for engineering and procurement activities.
  • Ensure that know-how is transferred within the discipline. Train and mentor Junior and Graduate engineers.
  • Proposes innovative solutions allowing cost & risks reduction. Creates, develops and/or validates tools.
  • Collaborates closely with internal stakeholders such as Project Engineering Managers Engineering Discipline Managers Other Engineering Departments and Engineering project personnel, Supply Chain Management and HSEQ project personnel onsite missions, Offshore Managers and Supervisors.
  • Operates within standardized engineering policies, processes and systems in the Business Management System (BMS) and Knowledge Management Centre guidelines.

Capability profile – Knowledge, skills, experience

  • MSc. or Ph.D. in mechanical engineering/hydrodynamics, with relevant work experience in the oil and gas industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of subsea pipeline design, fracture mechanics or finite element analyses.
  • Proficient in FEA modelling with Abaqus software.
  • Previous experience with Python coding is desirable.
  • Very good knowledge of written and spoken English.

Personal Attributes:

  • Undertake responsibility for production of deliverables, which may include engineering support to Drafting Office, design calculations, specifications, procedures, analyses, progress reports, bid evaluations, study reports and various 3rd-party submissions.
  • Excellent report writing skills with the ability to self-check and produce accurate work.
  • Experience in working in a multi-disciplined system engineering team.
  • Prioritize, organize and deliver work to deadlines set by management.
  • Demonstrable ability to work within time/budget constraints
