Material and Corrosion Engineer

REPORTS TO: D&A Deputy Engineering Manager

OFFICE LOCATION: Lisbon - Portugal

DESCRIPTION OF FUNCTION

Within the framework of our Projects in the AMEC region, we are looking for a Material and Corrosion Engineer to join our AMEC Engineering Department, in Lisbon office, Portugal.

As a materials and corrosion engineer, with particular expertise in the field of metallic materials (carbon steel, stainless steels, nickel base alloys) and corrosion (materials selection, CO2 corrosion, H2S corrosion, SCC…), you will have to bring your support within the Subsea 7 materials and welding discipline to other services (projects, SCM, engineering, quality ...).

The role provides exciting opportunities to be involved throughout all stages of projects with activities related to Flexibles, rigid flowlines, PIP, Subsea structures, offshore/onshore fabrication and installation.

All personnel are expected to contribute to creating a positive HSEQ culture within Subsea 7 and ensure familiarity with and adherence to local HSEQ codes and practices.

SPECIFIC KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES

  • Provide technical support to projects and other disciplines within Subsea 7 with regard to materials and corrosion.
  • Produce the material specifications for pipes, forgings, and bends.
  • Responsible of the materials selection according to the corrosive environment and the project constraints.
  • Perform CO2 corrosion calculation.
  • Reviews and clarifies offers received from pipes, bends, and forgings suppliers.
  • Participate to meeting with Clients, Vendors and Suppliers, and interface with Client representatives as required for resolving any technical issues.
  • Being the contact for project teams and tenders for topics related to materials and corrosion.
  • Support quality and SCM departments for supplier’s qualification.
  • Participate to the R&D activities on materials and corrosion.
  • Ensures effective communication is maintained with clients and other departments.

AUTHORITY / DIMENSIONS:

  • Operate within the Business Code of Conduct and Ethics Policy Statement.
  • Operate according to Subsea 7's Management Principles.
  • Support standards and procedures for the Engineering Function.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS / STAKEHOLDERS:

External:

  • Subcontractors and suppliers for engineering and procurement activity.
  • Clients for Technical Reviews, and input into tenders and studies.
  • Relevant professional bodies and institutions of learning.

Internal:

  • Project Managers / Directors
  • Engineering Department Managers
  • Project Engineering Managers
  • HSEQ, Supply Chain Management, Project Controls and Planning Managers
  • Engineering Compliance

 PROFILE:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Material Engineering or other degree in Engineering with focus on materials and corrosion.
  • Up to 5 years (graduates are welcome to apply) of relevant experience in materials and corrosion engineering.
  • Experience in Oil and Gas Industry is a plus.
  • Good understanding of metallurgical and mechanical properties of metallic materials.
  • Experienced in providing materials support to procurement of line pipe, induction bends, forgings, and in the review of subcontractor procedures and documentation.
  • Experienced in oil and gas corrosion mechanisms (CO2 corrosion, H2S corrosion….)
  • Experienced in corrosion calculation, Material Selection, Compatibility & Feasibility Design Report.
  • Have good level of familiarity of recognised industry codes and standards relevant to materials and welding discipline. (API 5L, DNV OS-F101, NORSOK, ASTM, NACE…).
  • Basic/good understanding of welding processes, welding qualifications, NDT procedures (UT, MPI, DPI, RT… ) used during welding of components and fabrication of subsea structures.
  • Assumes responsibility for Materials and corrosion project related targets.
  • Communicates effectively and articulately at all levels, internally and externally.
  • Demonstrates positive attitude and flexibility in work approach.
  • Is risk focused and demonstrates good analytical skills when making decisions.
  • Demonstrates commitment to and promotes Subsea7 vision and values.
  • Demonstrates professional approach when representing Subsea 7 builds and enhances relationships with client and manages interfaces effectively.

  • Ability to travel to on-shore and offshore sites.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Majority of the work is carried out Subsea 7 Lisbon Office,
  • Requirement for some international travel,
  • Offshore/Off-site location during project execution phases as required.
