Conversion Engineer

REPORTS TO: Discipline Team Lead

OFFICE LOCATION: Lisbon – Portugal

With a successful experience running the Engineering Conversion Programme in other offices, Subsea 7 is now developing this programme in Lisbon where we aim to provide experienced Engineers from other industries with the opportunity to take existing skills and experience and develop them into a new career within the Energy business. Through the programme many engineers have gone on to develop their careers within the sector and become leaders within the organisation.

How do we do it?  The Conversion Programme is a tailored scheme that introduces subsea engineering generally, and Subsea 7 activities specifically. There will then be assignment to a live project, with ongoing training, development and mentoring. Joining as part of the programme, along with a number of other engineers, the successful candidates will be fully supported every step of the way through structured development and mentoring as well as informally by colleagues within the business. 

The Role: The Conversion Programme is aimed at recruiting both Design & Analysis and Installation Engineers; Engineers who are responsible for the execution and delivery of a variety of projects within the business ranging from T&I to major EPIC developments. Based onshore in Lisbon with the requirement to go offshore / travel to meet project requirements.

SPECIFIC KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES

  • Under supervision, assists with production of deliverables, which may include engineering support to do design calculations, specifications, procedures, analyses, progress reports, bid evaluations, study reports and various 3rd-party submissions.
  • Consolidates knowledge in areas of discipline engineering, including design codes, legislative requirements and current good engineering practice.
  • Assists in the production of technical documentation.
  • Makes effort to become aware of all relevant safety objectives and legal requirements.
  • Recognizes the objectives for professional development.
  • To be clear of their roles and responsibilities within the Discipline.
  • Regular feedback to the Principal/Lead/Senior Engineer on workload and requests for additional support.

AUTHORITY / DIMENSIONS:

  • Operate within the Business Code of Conduct and Ethics Policy Statement.
  • Operate according to Subsea 7's Management Principles.
  • Support standards and procedures for the Engineering Function.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS / STAKEHOLDERS:

External:

  • External Subcontractors and suppliers for engineering and procurement activity relevant professional bodies and institutions of learning

Internal:

  • Internal Lead/Senior Engineer Engineering Department and project engineering personnel SCM and HSEQ project personnel Offshore Manager(s) and Supervisors Mentor (where applicable).

PROFILE:

Qualifications and Education

  • BSc., M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Mechanical, Naval, Civil, Aerospace, Materials/Welding Engineering.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • We are seeking candidates from a wide range of industries and backgrounds with demonstrable engineering experience (+5 years) who want to make the change to a career in Energy Industry. Example industries include but are not limited to: Civil Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering,
  • A good oral and written communication skills of English is required,
  • Ability to prioritize own workload, manage time accordingly and inform team members where constraints will affect a project in terms of program or budget,
  • Be aware of interfaces within a project structure, including other disciplines, drawing office, document control, project management, client and suppliers. Manage change control within own remit on a project,
  • Can work within time/budget constraints Commitment to Company Values,
  • Proactive approach to safety.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Majority of the work is carried out at Subsea 7 Lisbon Office,
  • Requirement for some international travels, for meetings, visits to suppliers, equipment testing…as required.
  • Working hours according to local regulation and Company's policy.
