DESCRIPTION OF ROLE
The Field Engineer – Pipeline Group will perform a key role in the offshore operations aboard an assigned Pipe Lay Vessel to ensure that installation and construction activities are performed in accordance with procedures in a safe and efficient manner whilst also supporting key management of change activities. With their focus being on the support of the project team and delivery of projects, the FE will be the project interface assigned to the vessel on a rotational rota basis and, when not offshore, will be required to contribute to project or tender support activities onshore or any specific task as agreed through the functional manager (PG Installation Engineering Leader).
The FE will provide a link between the Vessel and Projects ensuring efficient execution of projects utilising the vessel through applying a working knowledge of:
- Vessel and equipment capability;
- Vessel standard operations & best practices;
- Rigging/sea-fastening design, equipment and methods (including any legislative and regulatory requirements).
All personnel are expected to contribute to creating a positive HSEQ culture within Subsea 7 and ensure familiarity with and adherence to local HSEQ codes and practices.
They shall directly report to the Vessel Operations Manager – Pipeline Group and to the Offshore Construction Manager during offshore assignments.
SPECIFIC KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES
Offshore:
- Provide consistent technical interface between the onshore project(s), construction and marine personnel on the vessel during tender, planning & execution phases;
- Assist with the planning and organisation of project mobilisation and demobilisation port calls, preparing the deck / vessel crew for loadout of project materials;
- Lead sequential project planning efficiency optimisation, i.e. installation aids re-use, tensioner pad change-outs, equipment mob / demob, ROV tooling consistency as required;
- Assist with preparation and distribution of Task Plans, ensuring all relevant safety and quality issues are included;
- Provide additional Engineering support to the Project / act as Installation Engineer as required;
- Work with the Installation Engineer to ensure change is managed through the appropriate process;
- Assist the Offshore Manager in the monitoring and reporting of the progress of Project Operations against schedule and highlight concerns / delays;
- Assist in planning changes to operational schedule due to weather, breakdown, operational needs etc. in the most efficient way;
- Assist in the planning of Lifting Operations and preparation of Lift Plans;
- Promote safety culture and initiatives to the construction crew throughout all offshore activities;
- Recommend new work methods to improve safety and/or efficiency. Participate in shift handovers, Tool Box Talks and Supervisor task briefings;
- Participate in collection, collation and recording of as-built data / video footage;
- Monitor and compare approved for construction schedule Vs as-executed schedule on a daily basis;
- Maintain records of operational performance of vessel and equipment;
- Prepare / Participate in the completion of feedback reporting, (Lessons learnt, Offshore debriefs, end of trip reporting);
- Become familiar with and promote use of E7/Task Planning
Onshore:
- Develop and maintain various vessel documentations such as Vessel Specification, STPs, Standard Lift Plans, NORMs, Project History;
- Participate in review of installation procedures, drawings and Lift Plans;
- Participate in review of tender deliverables (installation scope) such as Time Estimate, Databook and Method Statement;
- Participate in project PHAs, HAZIDs and HIRAs (level 0 to 3), design / operability reviews, readiness reviews and convergence plans;
- Assist with interface between project / installation team and Offshore Resources to ensure that equipment/assets to be used are fit-for-purpose with adequate documentation, required operational performance and level of preparation;
- Assist the project in the planning and coordination of logistic activities including mobilisation and demobilisation of project crew, project installation aids, consumables and spare parts;
- Assist the project in the planning and coordination of SIT, trials, testing/ inspection of equipment and fabricated items;
- Assist project team with review of synergies with other projects, considering optimisations where practicable.
AUTHORITY/DIMENSIONS
- Operate within the Business Code of Conduct according to Subsea 7’s Management Principles;
- Support standards and procedures for the Engineering and Operations Functions.
KEY RELATIONSHIPS/ STAKEHOLDERS
External:
- Clients for safe and efficient operations;
- Subcontractors and suppliers for engineering and procurement activity.
Internal:
- PG Installation Engineering Leaders;
- Offshore Management Team (OMT) and Supervisors;
- Logistics and Quayside support;
- Offshore Resource and Operations department personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree qualified in an engineering discipline;
- Offshore Medical and survival certificates are preferred.
PERSONAL SPECIFICATION
- Established knowledge of project installation engineering (knowledge of rigid pipelay preferable but not essential);
- Ability to function as a team member across multiple projects and vessel departments;
- Good communication skills, oral, written and electronic;
- Ability to prioritise own workload, manage time and change control;
- Ability to manage interfaces within a project structure, including other disciplines; logistics, project management, clients, suppliers, vessel departments;
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software, knowledge in drafting software (AutoCAD or similar);
- Strong safety leadership.
