DESCRIPTION OF ROLE

Subsea 7 have an opportunity for a Design Lead to join our Floating Wind team based in Suresnes, Paris on a full time, permanent basis.  The Floating Wind Design Lead provides requested Floating wind technical expertise & support to projects, tenders and internal developments, actively looking to extend and capitalise know-how within the Floating Wind team.

The Design Lead is in charge of the production of design engineering deliverables relating to the design scope of Floating Wind works (wind turbine substructure, mooring, anchoring, power cable), manage and review technical documentation from suppliers and or subcontractors, provide guidance and steer as required the internal teams involved in the design of the works.

The Design Lead reports to the FOW technical lead for the scopes of work related to the Floating wind technical development program.

SPECIFIC KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES

Under responsibility of Project Managers or Tender Lead or FOW Technical Lead:

Organisation

  • Responsible for provding expert support and steer the design engineering activities to ensure a successful delivery of the Scope of work
  • Technical point of contact for interfaces between engineering teams on tender / project and with the Floating wind team.
  • On the development program, arrange regular engineering meetings within the scope of work and track actions and progress. Ensure participation from all relevant workstream owner as necessary and participate to the capitalisation of know-how.
  • Interfaces with all the engineering teams involved on the scope (Subsea7 group,Seaway7, Xodus, 4subsea, third parties) and work closely with Fabrication, installation and PMT
  • Ensure that all engineering deliverables are developed on the foundation of sound safety considerations

Planning & Reporting

On the technology development program and pursuits /tenders :

  • Determine resources to produce, review and manage the design scope.
  • Control design engineering hours budget, raise internal variation orders, and report potential external variation orders.
  • Report progress to technical workstream owners

Content Expert

  • Ensure quality of engineering design deliverables.
  • Initiate and perform risk assessments at the various stages of design with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Participate and contribute actively in the project risk review processes
  • Ensure that the design of permanent works as performed by subcontractor aligns with cost-effective fabrication and best practices in transport and installation.
  • Act as advisor in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction and Installation projects:
  • Design engineering guidance
  • Review of documentation related to design of permanent works like specifications, codes and standards and provide guidance
  • Selection of potential subcontractors for design of permanent works.
  • Identify technology gaps, develop and submit plans to address

Engineering Development Support

  • Advise and assist in developing the design engineering competences within Subsea 7
  • Actively share project experience within the Company.
  • Participate to the evaluation of softwares and tools for the Floating wind business
  • Participate to the evaluation of FOW engineering subcontractors

KEY QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 7+ years of experience within engineering in offshore industry (O&G and/or Offshore Wind business)
  • Preferred 5+ years of experience in design engineering of offshore structures (including but not limited to : naval architecture design, hydrodynamics, structural design, scantling, etc…)
  • Experience in global analyses: coupled dynamic analysis (Integrated Load Analyses in particular), fatigue analysis, mooring, anchoring, power cable, …
  • Experience with fabrication of offshore floating structures (semi-submersibles, buoys, TLP, etc…).
  • Fully conversant in English verbally and in writing is a strict requirement.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and effectively manage multiple/changing priorities 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proactive and flexibility mind set.
  • Team player.
  • Ability to take an overall view and critical mind.
  • Technical knowledge of key aspects within the seabed to surface industry.
  • High level thinking and strategic mind-set
  • Ability to isolate core issues within complex problems
