Subsea 7 (US) LLC is one of the world’s leading global contractors in seabed-to-surface engineering, construction and services to the offshore industry.

We currently have a requirement for a Contracts Specialist to join the global Contracts Team based in Houston, Texas. Reporting to the Legal Director, this is a challenging and diverse role with responsibility across a broad range of products and services.

The role has a particular focus upon providing efficient interpretation of Contractual documentation and the implementation of contractual and commercial strategies in support of both tendering and operational activities, all in accordance with relevant Company procedures and policies.

Main Duties and Key Responsibilities

Responsible for supporting all contractual activities associated with the tendering and operational processes, comprising:-

  • Assist with the wider Supply Chain Management team to ensure that any projects Subcontracts/Procurement have appropriate back-to-back contracting terms;
  • Preparation of Qualifications from contract for application to possible vendors, vessel owners and /or subcontractors in accordance with the Company’s contracting principles and obtaining all necessary internal approvals from Senior Management;
  • Negotiation of Qualifications with existing and prospective vendors, vessel owners and/or subcontracts and obtaining all necessary internal approvals from Senior Management;
  • Negotiation and administration of frame agreements and associated Call Off Orders;
  • Qualification, negotiation, preparation and administration of Performance Securities, Parent Company Guarantees and Insurance requirements;
  • Preparation of and presentation of Contract Summaries for use by Project Managers and On and Offshore Leadership to ensure that all relevant personnel are aware of Contractual obligations and objectives;
  • Negotiation and resolution surrounding contractual and financial disputes on live projects and advise/consult with Commercial managers in relation to same;
  • Co-ordination and preparation of project CTR’s, Variation Order Requests, Variation Orders and Management of Change;
  • Assist with the wider Supply Chain Management team to ensure that any project Subcontracts/Procurement have appropriate back-to-back contracting terms;
  • Ensuring that all project personnel are aware of all contractual obligations and objectives;
  • Assisting project Cost Controllers with preparation of Client invoices ensuring all relevant Contractual requirements are captured;
  • Where required, participation and involvement in tender, evaluation and negotiation and award of Subcontracts including Vessel Charter Parties;
  • Maintenance and adherence to all relevant Contract-related process contained within the Company’s Business Management System;
  • Participation in business improvement tasks on a continual basis;
  • Active participation in Company’s relevant compliance programmes.

Person Specification

  • Presents self in a professional manner and in a manner that is representative of the Company. Candidates are required to have a desire to provide excellent customer service both externally and internally;
  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to liaise across a number of departments and various personnel;
  • Candidates must have an eye for detail with an ability to produce work of a high standard and accuracy to Line Manager and customers (both internal and external);
  • This position requires interaction with members of Company’s organisation at various levels and externally with Client representatives. It is therefore essential that candidates are in possession of good communication (both verbal and written), presentation and interpersonal skills;
  • Candidates are required to have a sound understanding of the premises of Contract law and shall preferably have a level of commercial awareness;
  • Candidates are required to be self-motivating who can work effectively as an individual and as part of a team;
  • As the role is fast-paced and changeable, candidates are required to demonstrate an ability to being flexible in their approach to work, and to possess an ability to prioritise work in an appropriate manner as business needs dictate.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Educated to degree level,
  • Experience working as a Contracts Specialist or Engineer within the Oil and Gas or Construction industries is preferable, ideally with experience working within the Subsea sector;
  • Sound contractual knowledge and analytical skills;
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills;
  • Ability to work using own initiative and to work as part of a multi-disciplined team;
  • Ability to effectively manage own workload and work within given timescales (both internal and external);
  • Adaptability and proactive approach to problem solving;
  • Candidates should possess a good standard of IT literacy, particularly in relation to standard Microsoft software packages (e.g. Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
  • Pro-active, forward looking approach;
  • Commitment to providing excellent customer care.

Location

Based in Houston, Texas as part of the centralised Global Contracts Team with occasional business travel as and when required.
