OVERVIEW OF ROLE

Due to growth of the engineering organisation, subsea7 are seeking qualified candidate for the GPC&AP structure and piping deputy discipline managers role within the Kuala Lumpur office.

The Deputy Discipline Manager will be responsible for developing the discipline in-line with business requirements and ensuring technical competence for studies, tenders, FEED, and projects for their relevant technical area of responsibility. The deputy Discipline Manager will assist the GPC & AP Structures and Piping discipline manager in: 

As one GPC&AP, they ensure coordination of the activities between the GPC&AP offices for the discipline area of expertise of Subsea Structural and Piping Engineering.

The deputy discipline manager will assist projects and tenders for expertise in its own area of expertise

It is expected the candidate contributes to creating a positive culture within Subsea 7 and ensures adherence to Subsea7 core values.

This role is 50% discipline focused and 50% recoverable to Projects, Tenders, FEEDs and providing expertise.

SPECIFIC KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES: Functional Management

 

  • Supports the Discipline Manager by:

    • Ensuring that all engineering design deliverables within the Discipline are in accordance with the acknowledged Industry Standards, Design Guides, Subsea 7 processes, Client Specifications, and scopes of work.

    • Resource management within the discipline and maintain sufficient resourcing for successful project delivery.

    • Participating in the recruitment of personnel in accordance with the resource plan.

    • Supporting the retention of the discipline, proposing, and managing appropriate strategies.

  • Ensuring engineering performed is effective and quality driven and minimise the Cost of Lost.

  • Actively engaging in knowledge sharing, capture of Lessons Learned and application of Engineering Standards. Make sure the discipline activities are in-line with approved CTR and all changes to be captured by Onshore Technical change (OTC).

  • Promoting personal CPD (Continued Professional Development) team through regular engagement with the professional engineering community.

  • Participating to the recruitment of personnel and in accordance with resource plan include Graduate Engineer Development Scheme (GEDS).

  • Manage team members; perform team compass, and discipline admin work such as timesheet and leave approval.

  • Maintain and establish Group procedures / guidelines / database / continuous improvement as required.

 

Project and Tender support:

 

  • Review and follow project activities for the discipline ensuring the alignment with the DDM planned for the project.

  • Ensure Discipline project technical delivery in accordance with the requirements of the Business Management System. Including participation in problem solving and checking adequacy of resources.

  • Identification, mitigation, and management of technical risk, participating in necessary project reviews as required.

  • Review and validation of project technical documents as required. 

  • Ensure project fitness-for-purpose, legislative compliance, and adherence to project cost, time, and resource estimate.


Long term technical Management:

  • Improve and develop the discipline efficiency in terms of project delivery (MCO).

  • Maintain past project knowledge, discipline standards and discipline technical skills.

  • Stay up to date with latest technologies, equipment, techniques, and codes/standards within the discipline to maintain Subsea 7 competitiveness. 

  • Support technology developments / studies as required.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post Graduate Engineering degree or equivalent qualification preferably in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.

  • Minimum 10 years working experience within subsea engineering environment.

  • Technical, operational experience and knowledge within discipline with an extended capability of application.

  • Ability in resource planning to satisfy resourcing requirements.

  • Extended capability in managing self – time management, setting priorities and creative thinking.

  • Extended capability in developing working relationships through effective communication.

  • Extended capability and willingness to motivate, train and develop others.

  • Capability to interact with multidiscipline and multicultural team.

  • Proven capability on leadership of small engineering teams on tender and projects

  • You have high level skills in one of the following areas and reasonable knowledge in the others:

    • Knowledge of Subsea 7’s key Installation Vessels.

    • Flowline Subsea Structures: PLET, PLEM, ILT, Manifold, Piles etc

    • Flowlines Subsea Structures Piping: Component Selection, Materials, Design Codes and Analysis techniques.

    • Appreciation of Valves and Integrated Hardware.

    • Good knowledge within the technical areas covered by the discipline.

  • Familiar with systems and procedures as relevant for the area of responsibility.

  • Familiar with technical relevant software within discipline.

  • Acquainted in Legislations and Standards as relevant for the area of responsibility.
