We have a new opportunity for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join the business based in Aberdeen, UK.  Although we have some flexibility in the location for the right person.

The focus of the position is to work within the strategic technology programme for offshore wind on the development of novel cost effective fixed offshore wind turbine foundations and related technologies.

The ideal candidate should have demonstrable experience of offshore foundation design, a creative mindset and an open mind towards application of new technology or new design approaches. 





Role Specific - Responsibilities & Activities

Deliver packages of geotechnical design for the technology programme in fixed offshore wind structures. Perform geotechnical engineering from concept design to detailed design.

Strong geotechnical interpretation, analytical and advisory skills.

Experience in the design of offshore wind turbine foundations or related structures.

Use of 2D and 3D finite element software for analysis and design of complex soil-structure interaction problems.

Understands clients' needs; identifies and addresses design parameters and problems; develops and implements solutions. Experience with the relevant design codes.

Liaise with those necessary to comply with the task.

Undertake responsibility for production of deliverables, which may include preparation and checking of design reports, design calculations, analyses, progress reports, study reports and various third party submissions.

Be able to present their work effectively to multi-disciplinary teams and in front of clients.

The selected candidate will have good commercial awareness and experience of producing Cost, Time & Resource plans for tenders & studies




  • Clients for input to the technology programme, tenders and studies.
  • Engineering design houses, academic and research bodies.


  • Technology teams, Business Unit teams as well as business development and tendering.
  • Community of Experts in relevant engineering disciplines
  • Reporting to senior management as required.

Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor and or Master’s Degree (Civil, Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent).
  • Membership of a relevant professional body.
  • Related experience at an appropriate level, including a period as Principal or Lead Engineer.
  • Candidates should show a commitment to Continuing Professional Development.
