OVERVIEW OF ROLE

Subsea 7 are seeking dedicated and driven individuals to join our Structures and Piping Discipline within the Global Project Centre & Asia Pacific (GPC&AP) Engineering Team based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Subsea Structural Engineer specialises in the structural design and analysis of Subsea Structures (e.g. PLETs, ILTs and manifolds) and provides structural engineering support to several other project disciplines.

All personnel are expected to contribute to creating a positive HSEQ culture within Subsea 7 and ensure familiarity with and adherence to local HSEQ codes and practice

 

SPECIFIC KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES


• Provide skills and knowledge in key areas of subsea structural design engineering, including design codes, legislative requirements and good engineering practice
• Provide in-place, transportation, lifting, deployment, retrieval and sea-fastening design for subsea structures like PLETs, ILTs as well as ancillaries for subsea installation of SPS, SURF and pipelines
• Provide structural analysis for various subsea structures, installation aids, lifting equipment and sea fastening arrangements utilizing NSO/Isymost, ABAQUS or similar structural analysis software
• Take responsibility for production of deliverables, which may include preparation and checking of design reports, engineering support to drawing office, design calculations, specifications, MTOs, tender documents, bid evaluations, FEED study reports and various third-party submissions.
• Design and detailing in accordance with acknowledged industry codes, standards and design guidelines (e.g., API, DNV, AISC, ISO, client specifications and scopes of work
• Liaise with associated subsea related disciplines and understand the interfaces within a project
• Provide specialist structural engineering assistance during occasional periods of offshore or fabrication site working
• Actively participate in relevant training to pursue continuing professional development

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION


Essential Experience, Skills and Knowledge


• Minimum 5year experience of which 3year in SURF
• Professional qualifications – degree qualified ideally in Civil/Structural or Mechanical Engineering
• Experience in designing subsea structures like flowline Structures (FLETs, ILS), manifolds and suction piles
• Knowledge of Pipelay Methods and Pipelay Vessels including S-/J- and Reel lay.
• Thorough understanding of relevant industry codes, standards and guidelines (e.g. API, AISC, DNV, ISO)
• Good analytical skills (manual, computational calculations and FEA) toward developing and driving technical solutions
• Ability to work independently and as a team member
• Excellent communication, collaboration skills, both written and verbal.
• Efficient use of NSO/Isymost, STAAD Pro, ABAQUS or similar structural analysis software packages
• Competent in other non-technical software e.g. MS Office including Excel, Word and PowerPoint

 

Desirable Experience, Skills and Knowledge


• Membership of a relevant professional body
• Familiar with SPS components like Subsea Connectors & Valves and Subsea Controls Equipment
• Familiar with piping design, pipe routing and design codes (e.g. ASME B31.8, DNV-F101, API RP 1111)
• Experience of either offshore support or within fabrication yards
• Familiar with AutoCad/Inventor/Navisworks or other CAD programs
