Who we are looking for?

Due to continued growth and we are looking for a Dynamic Positioning (DP) Engineer to join our Offshore Resources team on a full time staff basis based at our Westhill office.  Offshore Resources are an internal service provider within Subsea 7 ​​supporting all of the regions with the vessels, equipment and people they need to deliver projects worldwide. We support the Subsea 7 SURF & Conventional fleet currently at 29 vessels, which includes dive, pipelay and heavy construction vessels.

This role sits within the Marine Technical Group and the aim of the group is to be a centre of expertise for Dynamic Positioning and Electrical systems, providing Knowledge and experience to insure that our equipment meets key safety & operational requirements, a consistent specialist approach to technical management and operation of these systems with our main Original Equipment Manufacturers, Vendors, Vessel Superintendents and vessel offshore technical teams to ensure a proper optimisation of all operational and technical routines and support for OR projects for CAPEX, dry-dock and maintenance stops preparation & execution

The candidates we are looking for should have demonstrable knowledge of vessel DP systems and equipment, as well as ideally with some marine electrical, electronic, and automation equipment. We are keen to hear from applicants not only from Oil and Gas Subsea Engineering backgrounds, but also from those with relevant shipping, Shuttle tankers, Ferry and Cruise operating DP or Class Surveyors/Consultants with DP background.

What does the role involve?

Duties of the Dynamic Positioning (DP) Engineer can involve but are not limited to the below:

  • Daily assistance to Vessel Superintendents in order to assure that the DP system is maintained to relevant standard.
  • Technical assistance in connection with breakdowns and maintenance.
  • Preparation of specifications and assistance with CAPEX justification.
  • Recommendation of actions to be taken to improve vessel safety and maintenance.
  • Maintaining files and records of DP technical documents.
  • Assist Vessel Superintendents with investigation and reporting of DP incidents to enable a safe return to work.
  • Annual DP trials, documentation and acceptance.
  • Follow up changes in rules and regulations.
  • Develop and maintain relationship with manufacturer/suppliers of relevant equipment.
  • Assist and follow up of docking, modification, and upgrading work.
  • Support projects in interface between vessel systems and project systems.
  • The job holder has a high level of safety criticality rating especially during site operations with subcontractors.

What do you need to have?

  • You will have relevant and demonstrable engineering experience in an onshore maritime or offshore environment in a similar position
  • You should be degree or HND qualification in a relevant engineering discipline
  • You will have a good understanding of vessel DP systems and equipment to contribute towards the resolution of technical problems.  Understanding of vessel electrical and electronic systems and equipment is also beneficial
  • You should have a good awareness of relevant international standards, codes and regulations for Marine systems.
  • A good communicator, you will be comfortable working in a team and interfacing with various levels of people throughout the organisation.
  • You will be organised and a good task planner, with the ability to adapt and react to changes in workloads
  • You should have strong analytical skills and be comfortable reviewing technical specifications, drawings, etc
