Overview of Role

Subsea 7 is seeking to recruit a Survey Technical Support Specialist to join our Applications & Technical support team based in Aberdeen, UK.

Subsea 7’s Group Survey function delivers technical support to offshore surveyors, data processors and survey technicians deployed across a fleet of vessels working across the Energy sector including Renewables, SURF & Conventional, and Inspection, Repair & Maintenance (IRM).

Reporting to the Survey Applications Support Manager, you will be an integral part of Subsea 7’s global Survey & Inspection team and will be tasked to provide assistance to survey & inspection personnel working globally both offshore on vessels and onshore in our offices.

The role is suited to candidates who are familiar with a variety of survey software applications (particularly EIVA products but experience with alternative packages would be considered and training given). Knowledge about the integration, setup, calibration, and operation of the typical survey sensors & instruments used in support of subsea survey & construction support operations would be beneficial.

This role would suit a candidate looking to transition from an offshore career to working in an onshore environment, or already in an onshore technical software support role and offers excellent development and career opportunities within Survey & Inspection as well as wider roles across Subsea 7.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide first line technical support in the use of survey and inspection software used across Subsea 7’s vessels & offices
  • Respond to technical queries logged through the group’s Survey & Inspection Helpdesk
  • Identify and raise lessons and improvement points through the Company's quality and knowledge management tools, and assists in ensuring that appropriate, timely action is taken
  • Liaise with software suppliers on reported defects, modifications, and additional features
  • Prepare, develop, and revise technical documentation and guidance
  • Integration and function testing of survey equipment and software as required
  • Support training of field staff in the use of software, processes, and procedures
  • Brief personnel in the use of relevant company standard documents and relevant technical support & guidance
  • Conduct periodic vessel visits to review current working practices and adherence to procedures by the field survey teams
  • Assist with the commissioning and auditing of survey software and systems across Subsea 7’s fleet
  • Assist the Applications Support manager in the identification, development & implementation of new technical products and solutions
  • Support survey technology programmes such as implementation of remote services
  • Quality control and reporting of sensor calibrations across the fleet
  • Participate in on-call rotas for the provision of technical support outside UK office hours

The role is primarily an onshore position based in Aberdeen with the potential for occasional short business assignments as required to other work locations including international and offshore assignments.

Key Requirements

  • Experience in offshore survey operations using industry standard navigation and/or data acquisition software (e.g. QINSy, Navipac/NaviScan, WinFrog, Starfix.Nav);
  • Excellent standard of oral and written English with an ability to develop clear and concise technical documentation
  • Works well in a team environment whilst demonstrating the ability to organise and co-ordinate own work
  • Presents self in a professional manner appropriate to the role
  • Produces written work of a high standard and presentable quality.
  • Good level of general computer and IT skills and proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products
  • Adaptable to the requirements of the job including provision of support outside core hours

Desirable Skills/Knowledge

  • Proficient in the use of Eiva NaviPac & NaviScan products
  • Experience of operating survey sensors and acquiring survey data using ROVs
  • Experience of developing procedures, guidelines, reports
