Generic Key Responsibilities & Activities

  • Develops and fosters a positive HSEQ culture throughout Subsea 7
  • Ensure good coordination with GPC engineering director for GPC type projects delivered in Brazil;
  • Develop a Digitalization and innovation culture
  • Develops the functional section of the 3/5 year Country plan
  • Facilitates the execution of the Country plan by setting clear and realistic objectives for direct reports
  • Responsible for the efficient, timely, accurate and cost effective management and delivery of the function’s activities within Country
  • Plans, organizes, manages and continuously improves the processes for the country in accordance with Subsea 7 global ways of working
  • Ensures the implementation of and adherence to Subsea 7’s Management System, professional tools, policies, systems and processes
  • Provides input to budget and is accountable for controlling costs and meeting budget within Country
  • Provides strategic direction, leadership, supervision and mentoring to the Country team
  • Develops a constructive and professional relationship with all stakeholders
  • Manages and actively participates in the performance appraisal for the team and their direct reports
  • Supports the professional and career development of Self and the team through continued professional training, mentoring, on the job development

 

Role Specific - Key Responsabilities & Activities

Be a safety leader and show commitment for all engineers to be and behave as safety leaders.

Accountable for all engineering undertaken in the Engineering Centre, ensuring that it is professionally executed in an efficient way, to the required quality and schedule and making use of Subsea 7’s knowledge management resources.

Support and contribute to the Group’s knowledge management programme of best practices, best designs, lessons learned, engineering libraries, databases etc.

Work in concert with the Group Engineering Resources and COE Manager to ensure the efficient allocation of resources and work packages. Identify skill shortages and take a leadership role to ensure the proper management of recruitment or reallocation of resources.

Support the country tendering and project teams to enhance the winning and execution of the work and the success of the country.

Ensure that the engineering management control system is systematically used as an effective management tool. Challenge and optimize the man hours estimated on projects and tenders.

Challenge, identify and mitigate the technical and commercial risks within the project portfolio.

Work in concert with the Engineering Compliance Director to ensure engineering is performed in accordance with the approved engineering process described in PM7 and the BMS.

Identify, and provide and manage resources to support process and business improvements, such as PM7, Controls, Technology Development, and Knowledge Management etc.

Work with the SCM function and ensure that engineers support SCM project processes and activities, and support the function generally.

Contribute to the overall effectiveness and success of the country management team. Work with the project management community and managers within the country to ensure the optimization of engineering performance within the project environment.

Develop the talent pool within the Engineering Centre through clearly understood roles, responsibilities, performance objectives, regular feedback, training and appropriate Continuing Professional Development.

Report on progress to the GTSC on a monthly basis, via an agreed format of performance KPIs and shared objectives

Preferred Experience and Education

Professional qualifications – Degree qualified as a minimum.

Formally certified or chartered engineer – preferred, but not essential. Formally trained as an engineer.

Relevant previous experience at an appropriate level in the subsea or offshore environment

 

Skills

Planning and review skills. Strong communication skills.

Skilled in the preparation of tenders from an engineering viewpoint.

Natural leadership style that ensures compliance to policies and procedures yet encourages innovation.

Commercial acumen. Engineering risk management

Competent in managing and motivating teams of engineers Budget management

Knowledge

Extensive technical knowledge of the subsea oil and gas engineering industry, both in design and the practical application of procurement, fabrication and installation works.

Knowledge of best practice engineering quality control systems and ensuring compliance

Knowledge of vessel capabilities and providing engineering solutions that provide competitive advantage within an acceptable level of risk
