Subsea7 is recruiting for Offshore Surveyors to support our global subsea construction projects across the Offshore Energy sector including pipe & cable installation, fixed & floating wind installation and subsea asset inspection.

We are offering opportunities to both offshore surveyors with current experience in subsea construction as well as those from adjacent market segments such as geophysical, seismic, hydrographic or land survey that are looking for an opportunity to take their career into an exciting and challenging multi-discipline subsea engineering environment.

This role is for you if you are;

  • enthusiastic and have a keen eye for detail and accuracy
  • Currently working as an Offshore Surveyor within subsea construction or in a similar role supporting geophysical, seismic or hydrographic survey
  • Currently working as a Land Surveyor or in similar role that involves the measurement and mapping of the Earth or our built environment
  • Have relevant skills from other industry or military experience and are looking to establish a new career

We are offering positions at Surveyor or Senior Surveyor depending on experience and will provide training and support to those with limited prior experience of subsea construction.

Role Overview

Joining Subsea7 as an Offshore Surveyor you will be responsible for interfacing, calibration and operation of the required survey equipment deployed on our vessels and ROVs for the particular work scope. You will operate the integrated online Navigation and Data Acquisition systems; constantly monitoring the performance and quality of the positioning and seabed mapping systems ensuring that all data sources are valid and logged appropriately.

The Offshore Surveyor will ensure that a suitable navigation display is available at all remote stations across the vessel and that field graphics and other situational information is maintained up to date and accurate. You will maintain an accurate log book and complete all required routine checklists and advise the Party Chief or Senior Surveyor of any issues impacting the quality or performance of the survey systems.

As an Offshore Surveyor you will be required to complete your Competence Assessment for the role of Surveyor or Senior Surveyor as applicable. You will continue to develop your experience, skills and competence across a variety of vessel types and in different types of operation; working towards achieving the competence for Survey Party Chief where you would be responsible for offshore survey operations on the vessel, managing & leading the offshore survey team.

As an offshore surveyor, your career within Subsea7 is only limited by your aspiration and desire, with opportunities to progress into other roles both offshore or onshore, either within Survey or in many other roles and functions in a global, multi-discipline organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand and comply with Company standard operating procedures and project-specific survey procedures
  • Interface, configure, calibrate and operate all required survey & positioning sensors
  • Configure, operate and maintain the integrated survey Navigation and Data acquisition systems ensuring geodetic parameters, offsets, C-Os and other settings are entered correctly and that situational awareness displays are maintained and available for all users across the worksite
  • Ensure that all survey sensors and systems are operating within required specifications and tolerances for the work
  • Ensure all data is monitored in real-time and appropriately recorded and secured on the onboard data storage
  • Maintain and document the vessel and ROV offset information throughout the duration of the project
  • Assist in the launch and recovery of survey sensors, such as towed sonar systems or CTD probes, if required.
  • Assist with processing of logged survey data, chart production and reporting where required.
  • Liaise with Survey & Inspection team members, bridge officers, ROV crew and other onboard departments as necessary to ensure that the required level of information and communication is maintained between all functions on the vessel
  • Fully brief relief surveyor at shift handover and at crew changes.
  • Actively participate with the Subsea 7 Competence Assurance & Assessment Program.
  • Operate in accordance with Subsea7 safety management system and operating standards and actively participate in Toolbox Talks and Risk Assessments and contribute to the companies HSEQ Behavioural/Observational systems

Key Requirements:

  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience as a Surveyor within offshore construction for Oil & Gas or Renewables or in a similar offshore role, land survey, civil engineering or other role involved in positioning and measurement of the Earth and the built environment
  • Degree or HND qualification in relevant survey related discipline is preferred but not essential
  • The following certification would be desirable: CA-EBS; Shoulder Measurements; ILO Seamans Book, valid Offshore Survival and OGUK medical
  • Strong communication skills with effective English language written and oral skills
  • Proactive approach to problem solving
