What is the role?

Due to our continued growth, Subsea 7 have exciting permanent staff opportunity for a Principal Engineer (CRA Pipeline Products) as part of our team.   The successful candidate will ideally be located in our Old Kilpatrick, Glasgow offices, however we are able to consider candidates from other regions within UK and Europe with periodic travel to Glasgow. This role is key to the future success of the Internal Corrosion Management – Pipeline Products team.

Reporting to the Product Director, the main purpose of this role will be to identify and deliver product improvements, efficiency gains and eliminate instances of product associated cost of loss.  In addition, the Principal Engineer will be responsible for providing product team input and guidance to key stakeholders through all commercial project phases - from early engagement activities through to project execution and beyond.   Furthermore, the Principal Engineer will lead Technology Development projects on behalf of the product team with the aim of further enhancing our Internal Corrosion Management product portfolio.  This will be a very diverse role and will require active collaboration with members of the product team and a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. 

What will your responsibilities involve?

  • You will act as the team’s lead engineer providing direction and guidance for all aspects of CRA pipeline products
  • Supports early engagement activities on commercial projects (pre-contract award) by providing product technical input
  • Responsible for providing product recommendations and guidance to key stakeholders on a timely basis in support of project win strategies. These recommendations should be the most commercially and technically appropriate pipeline solutions, with associated justifications, for the purposes of supporting early engagement activities (preliminary client discussions through to tender delivery).
  • Work with company Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop, prepare and maintain standard guidance/ best practices and supporting information for early engagement activities and issuance to S&M and FDG and entry into the company’s BMS.
  • Manage key technical product information (including product design and operational envelopes) and ensure accuracy and alignment amongst key internal stakeholders.
  • Participate in Community of Experts (CoE) meetings by contributing to the development of technical standards, specifications and providing technical input
  • Provide technical support to SCM for the purposes of supplier discussions on CRA pipeline products. In particular, supporting and often leading discussions relating to product schedule, quality or cost/ efficiency improvements and cost of loss.
  • Working with key stakeholders, co-ordinate CRA pipeline solutions new supplier qualification activities
  • Work with Technology Group and other key stakeholders to ensure new products are developed in line with company and product strategy whilst ensuring they are introduced (product industrialisation and commercialisation) to the market in line with company product development process (>TRL4).
  • With support from the CoE and Technology Group, develop and manage the CRA pipeline solutions product roadmap.
  • Identify and drive product standardisation and modularisation initiatives where possible.
  • Collate relevant commercial project information with aim of creating, maintaining and distributing product track records.
  • Maintain regular dialogue with key internal stakeholders in order to stay abreast of all changes and/or challenges that may influence CRA pipeline products.
  • Liaise with project teams to ensure commercial project lessons are learned and collated, communicated, actioned and closed out.
  • Use existing or develop new presentation materials in support of internal and external product focussed meetings.
  • Liaise with Supply Chain Management and product team Sales & Marketing lead to map future project prospects and identify any potential supply chain challenges.

What are we looking for?

  • You will be degree qualified in a relevant subject, ideally one that is metallurgy based
  • A good understanding of CRA materials, associated pipeline solutions and the relevant manufacturing processes
  • You should be able to employ good engineering practices and a risk based approach to decision making, whilst being able demonstrate strong analytical skills and have experience of leading small to medium sized projects from concept through to completion, including budget and schedule management.
  • A willingness to learn and develop a product management approach
  • You should have proven capability in writing and presenting technical specifications and reports and be proficient in the use of IT systems, such as Microsoft Office Suite; Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • You will be highly motivated and be able to show a demonstrable commitment to HSE and Quality, and a willingness to learn and develop a product management approach
  • You should be a strong communicator, able to engage with stakeholders of all levels, both internally and externally and have strong stakeholder management skills
  • You will be comfortable working on your own and as part of a team and to challenging deadlines as well as being a logical thinker with strong organisational skills who is able plan and prioritise changeable workloads, whilst also maintaining strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
