Lead Structural Engineer

Location: Lisbon- Portugal

Within Africa, Middle East & Caspian region (AMEC), we safely execute Subsea and Conventional projects which connect seabed wellhead infrastructures to surface facilities such as platforms and floating production systems. We are actively present in a significant number of countries in Africa, Europe, Caspian Sea, Middle East and Asia.

 

Function Description

Within the framework of our Projects in the AMEC region, we are looking for a Senior or Lead Structural Engineer to join our AMEC Structural Engineering Department, in Lisbon office, Portugal.

The role involves working on studies, tenders and projects in a variety of EPCI and/or Transport & Installation Contracts.

You will be responsible for working with conceptual and detailed design of Subsea Structures as well as Topsides work and Installation Aids. The person will need to understand Client’s needs, identify and address design parameters and develop and implement possible solutions.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for design activities of high level of complexity;
  • Perform specific calculation such as seafastening, installation aids and permanent structures design (ILTs, PLETs…);
  • Responsibile for production of deliverables, which may include engineering support to the Drawing Office, design calculations, specifications, procedures, analyses, progress reports, bid evaluations, study reports and various 3rd-party submissions;
  • Manage a small package of structures within a project and be responsible for its planning, interfaces and to deliver as expected in time and budget;
  • Check junior and less experienced engineers’ analysis, design and engineering activities associated with subsea construction and installation;
  • Mentor Junior Engineers.

  • Clients for Technical Reviews, and input into tenders and studies.

  • HSEQ, Supply Chain Management, Project Controls and Planning Managers
  • Engineering Compliance

 

Qualifications

  • Graduated with a M.Sc. / Ph.D. in civil (Structural), Mechanics or Marine/offshore Engineering;
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in structural design related activities. Oil and Gas, Subsea equipment or Offshore Renewables knowledge are greatly appreciated;
  • Steel structure design, material strength, Naval architecture, piping design
  • Knowledge of piping, connectors, valves and forgings and associated codes.
  • Competency in design and analysis software packages for FEA (Abaqus, Ansys…) and Beam Elements (SACS, NSO/ISYMOST…) is essential;
  • Good knowledge of industry standards;
  • Good knowledge of design codes (AISC, API, ABS, BV, DNV, Eurocodes…);
  • Produces work of presentable quality;
  • Ability to prioritize own and others’ workload, manage time and change control accordingly and direct team members where constraints will affect a project in terms of program or budget;
  • Ability to lead and function team member across multiple projects.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels within the organization;
  • Ability to work within time/budget constraints
  • Demonstrate commitment to Continuing Professional Development.
  • Demonstrate commitment to HSE and Quality;
  • Shall be self-motivated and have well developed interpersonal skills.
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English.
  • Ability to travel to on-shore and offshore sites.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Majority of the work is carried out Subsea 7 Lisbon Office,
  • Requirement for some international travel,
  • Offshore/Off-site location during project execution phases as required.
