The Global Projects Centre & Asia Pacific (GPC & AP) is Subsea 7's centre of excellence for the execution of its largest projects worldwide.

Within GPC & AP Engineering Function, Design & Analysis Group, "Risers, Installation Analyses and Umbilical" (RIAU) department is currently looking for SME (Subject Matter Expert) on SCR (Steel Catenary Riser) and SLWR (Steel Lazy Wave Riser) Design to provide expertise support on various Global Projects within Subsea 7.  

As a Principal Engineer, your main responsibilities will be:

  • Expertise Support on Projects, FEED, and Tenders
    • Provides specialist skills, integrity, and knowledge on SCR and SLWR engineering including design codes, client specifications, and latest engineering practices.
    • Understands Clients’ driver by identifying and addressing the design parameters and problems. Develops and support project team implementing the solutions.
    • Check the design and analysis done internally or by external party. Review the associated engineering activities (e.g. Interface load, ECA, Riser Component Technical SOW)
    • Actively engage in Project Expert Committees (PECs) and Project Risk Assessment / Mitigation processes. Support Lead Engineer on the Project to ensure compliance and robustness of Subsea 7 proposed riser design.
    • Provides expert advice as required both in internally to Subsea 7 employees as well as externally to the clients (e.g. Design Review).
    • Ensure Lesson Learnt are implemented in Subsea 7 internal standard (BMS)

 

  • Support for Internal Development:
    • Support the development and update of Engineering Standards that captures our technical solution, technical positions, and operational experience.
    • Promote and champion knowledge management between the Discipline and Project teams.
    • Actively engage with “Technology Development” and “Field Development” teams to identify any technology gaps and propose the plans for addressing the plans for riser technology development.
    • Trains / mentors more junior engineers and maintain the internal training materials up to date.

  • Subcontractors/Third Parties and suppliers related to rigid and hybrid risers
  • Clients for Technical Reviews, and input into tenders and studies
  • Relevant professional bodies and institutions of learning

 Your Profile

  • MSc or PhD in Mechanical Engineering/Hydrodynamics equivalent
  • Extensive design experience in SCR / SLWR Design including
    • Wall thickness verification, Strength analysis, wave fatigue analysis, VIV analysis, interference analysis
    • Expert in OrcaFlex and Shear 7
    • Riser Component knowledge such as Flexible Joint, Stress Joint, Buoyancy Modules, and VIV strakes
    • In depth knowledge of industry Codes, Standards and Design Guides (e.g. API 17J, DNVGL-ST-F201, API RP 2STD/2RD etc.)
    • Welding and Material Knowledge related to SCR / SLWR pipes
  • Ability in working in a multi-disciplined system engineering team and multicultural group

  • Flexible pipe design
  • Umbilical design

Working Conditions

  • Majority of the work is carried out in the Home office site – Suresnes or Sutton
  • Requirement for some international travel
