Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls expertise are necessary for GPC & AP to support Subsea 7 in the diverse actions being taken toward the Vision 2025 by providing capabilities in order to deliver the field of the future and perform an active presence in the energy transition.

The EIC discipline mission is to provide expertise throughout all phases of an EPCI project, from concept to commissioning as well as on technology development and Product Teams by keeping the synergy between Subsea 7 teams (GPC & AP and other Regions), our partners and specific suppliers. The interface with suppliers is critical in order to guarantee the correct technology selection, design, qualification and delivery of the equipment.  EIC team is responsible for providing the personnel with the expertise to meet this demand. 

The EIC team is versatile, in terms of expertise and, typical in GPC & AP, it is multicultural with a very friendly environment. The capabilities of the team includes: Subsea Controls, Monitoring Systems, Electrical Systems, Power Distribution, Automation and Control and others. Note that team members keep learning with each other due to their complementary skills.

The team members are based in GPC & AP offices located in Sutton (London), Aberdeen, Suresnes (Paris) and Kuala Lumpur.

The EIC Engineer – Electrical & Instrumentation will be based in Sutton and mainly allocated in product/technology development, tenders, FEED and EPCI projects interacting with client, partners and suppliers, however he/she may be requested to support in other scopes within the team responsibilities. Its mission will be to provide expertise by understanding client needs and select/design the fit for purpose solution and support technically its delivery. Short term trips to attend meetings, site and offshore work may be required.

Generic Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialist skills, integrity and knowledge in key areas of discipline engineering, including design codes, legislative requirements and current good engineering practice.

  • Undertake responsibility for production of deliverables, which may include engineering support to DO, design calculations, specifications, procedures, analyses, progress reports, bid evaluations, study reports and various 3rd-party submissions.
  • Sign and issue technical documentation as originator or checker, accepting personal responsibility for its adequacy.
  • Ensure all relevant safety objectives and legal requirements are observed.
  • Recognise and accept HSE Roles & Responsibilities as per Subsea7 HSE Role and Responsibility matrix.

Specific Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Plan, detail and review technical documentation relating to topside and subsea electrical and instrumentation system, safety system and power distribution (power and comms).
  • Undertake, and check others’, analysis, design and engineering activities associated with Monitoring and Control for offshore units from design, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning.
  • Create scope of work and specification for design, fabrication, testing and installation of electrical and instrumentation system and components.
  • Manage provision of deliverables such as calculations/definition for electrical and instrumentation equipment design (electrical and optical), determination of interfaces between topside and subsea systems, medium and high voltage power monitoring and controls, etc.
  • Ensure design and detailing in accordance with acknowledged industry Codes, Standards and Design Guides (e.g. API, DNV, ISO, IEC); Client Specifications and Scopes of Work.
  • Production and checking of design documentation including feasibility reports, detailed design reports, construction drawings, design specifications, material take-offs, circuit diagrams, PIDs, installation, operation and maintenance manual; etc.
  • Liaise with associated subsea related disciplines and understand the interfaces within a project
  • Provide engineering assistance during mobilisations and occasional periods of offshore or site working, including FATs, SITs, Pre-commissioning and Commissioning.
  • Provide technical engineering support to other departments within the Central Engineering Group, the Project Engineering Group, and to colleagues.
  • Participate as required in events such as Bid Clarifications, Kick off meetings, HIRAs, FMCA, Design Reviews, etc.

Systems where a further knowledge is desirable:

  • Experience with monitoring and control of offshore floating units
  • HVAC and HVDC distribution system
  • Safety area equipment requirements.
  • Internet of Things (IoT), monitoring and digitalization process.
  • Distributed monitoring system (i.e. DTS systems, temperature monitoring using optic fibres)
  • Transducers - pressure, load cells, flow, temperature, distance etc
  • General communications systems and protocols (Modbus, OPC, CANBus, etc.).
  • Programmable Logic Controllers and its components like I/Os and communication modules
  • SCADA Systems (or similar Distributed Control Systems)
  • Control Cards (Convertors, Proportional Control etc)
  • HMI Devices
  • Protection and Isolation Procedures
