Who are we looking for?

Subsea 7 has an opportunity for a Materials Engineer to work in the Pipeline Design team in our Westhill, Aberdeen office on a staff or a contract basis.  Candidates of all levels from Level 1 Engineer to Lead Engineer will be considered. 

The successful candidate will support the design and procurement of flowlines in projects, tenders and studies that the company is involved in, ensuring that the materials involved are in compliance with national codes and good engineering practice.

You would be joining a culture which is both supportive and challenging, supporting others in the department whilst providing specialist support to projects. You will have opportunity to be involved in a wide range of projects involving various materials, mainly carbon manganese steel, 13 Cr martensitic steels, duplex stainless steels, austenitic stainless steels, nickel based alloys.

What does the role involve?

  • Review and develop material specifications and data sheets for line pipe procurement suitable for S-Lay, Reel lay and Bundles
  • Provide materials engineering support to the pipeline design discipline from conceptual and Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) studies to execution and technology development projects
  • Perform material selection and give support and recommendations to studies, tenders and projects
  • Provide input and support to tenders and projects on materials selection and line pipes procurement / manufacturing
  • Provide technical support and leadership for line pipe manufacturing scopes:
    • Manage technical bid evaluations from suppliers
    • Participate in clarification meetings, KOM, PPM at pipe mills
    • Review and approve manufacturing procedures and ITP from pipe mills
    • Provide technical support in case of issues during line pipes manufacturing
  • Interface with other stakeholders including Subsea 7’s Pipeline Group (PG), quality department, project and studies management teams, clients and subcontractors
  • Liaise with other disciplines, Pipeline Group Materials and Welding engineers, as part of studies, tenders and project work
  • Produce CTRs for the Pipeline Materials discipline and control budget

What do you need to have?

  • Educated to Degree level in Metallurgy, Materials Science or other relevant degree
  • Qualification in Welding Engineering would be beneficial
  • Excellent organisation and systematic working methods, ability to manage workscopes
  • Excellent communication skills and be able to interface with various stakeholders and departments
  • Experience in working as part of the project team
  • A proactive and positive attitude
  • A high level of integrity
  • Strong analytical skills
