We have an opening in the UKGIRM Finance Team for a Trainee Project Accountant located in Westhill, East Campus. The role of Trainee Project Accountant is a necessary stepping stone to becoming a Project Accountant, ideally suited to a candidate with an Accounting & Finance degree or similar higher qualification who wishes to study towards professional qualification in a supportive environment.

The role develops the Trainee in the necessary competencies and skills required to take on the full responsibility of a Project Accountant. By the end of the traineeship the Trainee will aspire to level of Project Accountant and augmented by their ongoing studies, have developed a set of transferrable skills suited to all areas of the wider Finance function within Subsea 7.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Take personal responsibility for self-development by working towards and demonstrating full knowledge and understanding of the various competencies set out in the Trainee competency matrix.
  • Assisting the Senior Project Accountant in all aspects of cost control of assigned projects including forecasting and commitment tracking of man hours, procurement activities and vessel operations.
  • Assist in providing project managers with advice and support in financially managing their projects
  • Assist in the month end process by ensuring that SAP accurately reflects project costs and revenues to date, including any accruals or prepayments
  • Assist the Senior Project Accountant in the preparation of monthly financial forecasts for their projects
  • Assist the Senior Project Accountant in the preparation of a monthly financial sensitivity analysis for their projects
  • Analyse variances from as-bid financials by building a detailed monthly analysis of variances from prior forecast
  • Prepare month end project reports and review with assist the Senior Project Accountant and Project Manager
  • Attend project / client meetings and provide relevant financial input and reports as required
  • Prepare and issue all project invoices
  • Assist the Senior Project Accountant prepare project cash flows in support of the Group's Treasury requirements for cash flow forecasting
  • Develop effective interfaces with the Projects and contribute to improvement programs; make recommendations to improve/enhance existing processes
  • Any other duties as required

Qualification & Education

  • It is essential that candidates should be educated to higher level (degree or equivalent) in Finance or a business related subject
  • It is desired that candidates are committed to continuing their studies towards professional accounting qualification

Skills

  • It is essential that candidates are competent in the use of Excel
  • It is essential that candidates can communicate effectively and articulately at all levels and can demonstrate good analytical skills and effective forward planning
