Overview

The HSE Apprentice reports to the Senior HSE Manager and Sutton Facilities Manager supporting all the functions in the Sutton office. The position is key to ensuring we maintain a compliant and safe facility for our growing subsea project management team.

Full Description

The Subsea7 building in Sutton is a modern and innovative workspace for up to 500 people working on international energy projects. As the business grows, the safe running of the building becomes ever more important. On top of this are the environmental obligations as a company which necessitate us improving how we report data and maintain our high standards for sustainability.

The role also offers a gateway into understanding how Health, Safety and Environment works within the energy business and can be a development role for working on major projects in the future.

 

HSE Coordinator Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively follow up on any incidents in the building, from reporting, investigation and learning from the event.
  • Work with the office First Aiders to ensure we have sufficiently trained individuals in the building, organising new training and being a point of contact for first aiders.
  • Ensure fire arrangements are robust and that regular fire drills are taking place. Support in training of fire marshals and following up on learnings from drills etc.
  • Support the HR team and our team of Mental health first aiders in building a feeling of a safe space in the office to talk about mental health issues.
  • Lead the reporting of environmental data to Corporate for annual sustainability reporting. This includes working with the cleaning company to ensure correct waste data and understanding our buildings energy usage.
  • Being a member of the 40 Brighton Road coordination group, specifically focussed on Community or Social activities and donations
  • Linking in with our in-house fitness team from Nuffield to ensure they are providing maximum support to the physical wellbeing of our teams
  • Ensuring all first aid kits in the building are stocked and AED’s are tested / replacement parts ordered.
  • Management of the PPE store. This will involve stock taking, ordering when stocks are low and managing the distribution to people heading to worksites.
  • Regularly reviewing and responding to any safety observation cards that are submitted in the building. Also, keeping a record and reporting numbers into our internal Safety Management tool – Synergi.
  • Entering other data into Synergi such as monthly manhours worked in the building.
  • Manage our Time out for Safety program – a monthly event where a different presenter presents on a safety topic important to them. The position will need to ensure presenters are available, the invites are sent out and general management of the programme.
  • Leading one-off initiatives such as safety campaigns, promotions and linking in with the Comms team.
  • Lead monthly office inspections
  • Become trained to conduct DSE assessments.

  • Good command of written and spoken English, also numerate.
  • Active interest in office digital tools such as Microsoft 365, SharePoint Online, planner etc.
  • Good communication skills – be able to work with everyone in the building.
  • Proactive, flexible with a can-do attitude.
  • Strong prioritisation and organisation skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Flexible and adaptable.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Having an interest in a future career within the Health, Safety or Environmental profession. would be a huge advantage.
  • Working towards NVQ level 3 or above in relevant subject.
