What is the role? 

Subsea7 are looking for a Subsea 7 are looking for a Marine Technical Engineer to work within the Offshore Resources team on a full-time, permanent basis in our Westhill, Aberdeenshire office.

This role will be in our Fleet & Equipment group, which helps form part of the wider Offshore Resources team. Offshore Resources are an internal service provider within Subsea 7 ​​supporting all of the regions with the vessels, equipment and people they need to deliver projects worldwide. We support the Subsea 7 SURF & Conventional fleet currently at 28 vessels, which includes dive, pipelay and heavy construction vessels. The Fleet & Equipment Function has full budget & technical responsibility for the day to day running of our fleet of owned and 3rd party Vessels incorporating the fixed equipment onboard and the mobile equipment stored onshore catalogued for project use

The Marine Technical Engineer position is an excellent opportunity to join the Technical & Engineering team supporting an advanced, modern fleet of Offshore Support Vessels, spanning across many regions and sectors within the business. The candidates we are looking for should have demonstrable marine/offshore experience in served time onboard as a Ships Engineer or within a technical role for a vessel operator or experience within Marine Power and PropulsionWe are keen to hear from applicants not only from Oil and Gas Vessel backgrounds, but also from those with relevant shipping, Shuttle tankers, Ferry and Cruise vessels, Class Surveyors/Consultants and leading OEMs in Thruster and Engine maintenance.

What will your responsibilities involve?

  • Focal point for Marine Engineering technical consultancy and planned maintenance systems.
  • Analyse results of condition monitoring systems and if required initiate changes to Planned or Condition Based Maintenance Systems.
  • Assist in review and creation of technical specifications.
  • A key member, responsible for supporting the Vessel Superintendents with technical operating issues and Offshore teams.
  • Promote planned maintenance across the fleet and encourage users to engage with the systems/procedures in place.
  • Involved in analysis of ship performance and technical improvements to be implemented in ship maintenance systems.
  • Contribute to the development of PMS implementation procedures, including philosophy, hierarchy and content.
  • Ensure that proper preventive maintenance policies are in place and support marine crew in the implementation of those policies accordingly.
  • Work within budget restraints for the efficient operation and maintenance of vessels.
  • Involved in planning and execution vessel dockings, modifications and repairs.
  • Liaise with Classification Societies and Maritime Authorities relevant to maintenance of vessel certification.
  • Interface between OEM / equipment service engineers for works onboard.
  • Liaise with external contractors when reviewing / optimising maintenance regimes.
  • Liaise with SCM (Buyers) and Logistics to ensure spare parts requisitions are dealt with in due time to not jeopardize operation of the vessel(s).

What are we looking for?

  • Demonstrable, relevant marine/offshore experience in the capacity of Chief Engineer, 1st or 2nd Engineer
  • Degree in an engineering discipline or HND/HNC or STCW Marine Engineer (class 1)
  • A very good understanding of power plant and propulsion systems specific to offshore vessels
  • Experience in Vessel Dry Docks and repair periods
  • Ideally will have worked previously or presently working within an offshore vessel operator’s technical department
