Who are we looking for? 

Due to continued expansion, we have an exciting opportunity for a Vessel Superintendent to join our team in Zoetermeer on a full time, permanent basis.

The Vessel Superintendent is accountable for the management and safe and efficient operation of vessels under their jurisdiction within an assigned fleet, including all permanent fixed equipment onboard (with support from specialist personnel as necessary).  The Vessel Superintendent must ensure that allocated vessels are operated with maximised safety and availability at optimised cost, and that all owned equipment is managed according to Seaway7 equipment assurance policy.

What does the role involve?

  • Develop and maintain the reporting system in place between the vessel(s) and the shore-based facility.
  • Monitor Safety and Pollution prevention operations.
  • Work within budget restraints for the efficient operation of vessels.
  • Develop and administer reliable budget forecasts against the approved budget plan.
  • Implement company policies shipboard and monitor the execution of these policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of all vessel(s) activities, communications and technical dossiers.
  • Liaise with clients and vessel(s) owners regarding operational matters.
  • Liaise with Project and Operations to establish requirements and provide assistance if possible.
  • Liaise with Technical & Engineering and Mobile Assets Teams and in particular their departmental managers to co-ordinate equipment deliverables and assurance.
  • Promote the use of the company Business Management System.
  • Liaise with the Technical Support Manager and Dry-dock/CAPEX Project Manager relevant to vessel(s) servicing and dry dock commitments.
  • Responsible for the implementation of ISM requirements whilst at sea.
  • Liaise with Classification Societies and Maritime Authorities relevant to maintenance of vessel certification.
  • Coordinate ISM audits as well as LOLER and PUWER compliance audits.
  • Preparation, Review and Compilation of vessel operating manuals.
  • Interface with Sales & Marketing Department to provide assistance with bids etc.
  • Line Manager for Captains and Chief Engineers of assigned Vessels.

What do you need to have?

  • Capable of thinking ahead and anticipating vessel(s) requirements.
  • Sufficient maritime and managerial experience to provide a level of confidence within the ranks of the marine crew.
  • Thorough knowledge of marine activities relative to vessel operating parameters.
  • Able to implement budgetary controls in order to achieve cost targets.
  • Sufficient technical knowledge to contribute towards the resolution of technical problems.
  • Pleasant disposition with the capability to be authoritative when necessary.
  • Strong co-ordination, organisation and liaison skills with the ability to seek and gain consensus solutions to complex issues.
  • The ability to understand interface relationship between marine and project personnel.
  • Educated to a preferred degree level in Marine Engineering, but experience may be considered.
  • Master Mariner or Chief Engineer qualified.
