OVERVIEW OF ROLE

The Field Engineer (FE) will perform a key role in the offshore operations aboard an assigned Subsea 7 vessel to ensure that Construction activities are performed in accordance with procedures in a safe and efficient manner. With their focus being on the support of the project team and delivery of projects, the FE will be the project interface assigned to the vessel on a rotational basis and, when not offshore, will at times be required to contribute project or tender support activities onshore or any specific task as agreed through the functional manager.

 

The FE will provide a link between the Vessel and Projects ensuring efficient transition of Projects utilizing the vessel through applying a working knowledge of:

  • Vessel and equipment capability
  • Vessel standard operations & best practices
  • Subsea construction techniques, equipment and methods (including estimation and planning of construction activities)
  • Rigging/sea-fastening design, equipment and methods (including any legislative and regulatory requirements)
  • All personnel are expected to contribute to creating a positive HSEQ culture within Subsea 7 and ensure familiarity with and adherence to local HSEQ codes and practices.

 

SPECIFIC KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES

 

Offshore:

  • Provide consistent technical interface between the onshore project(s), construction and marine personnel on the vessel during tender, planning & execution phases.
  • Assist with the planning and organization of Project mobilization and demobilization port calls, preparing the deck / vessel crew for loadout of project materials.
  • Lead sequential project planning efficiency optimization, i.e. installation aids re-use, tensioner pad change-outs, equipment mob / demob, ROV tooling consistency as required.
  • Provide additional Engineering support to the Project / act as project engineer as required.
  • Give direct operational guidance to deck, equipment, ROV and services personnel. Provide technical support and advice to the Offshore Manager.
  • Promote safety culture and initiatives to the construction crew throughout all offshore activities.
  • Recommend new work methods to improve safety and/or efficiency. Participate in shift handovers, Tool Box Talks and Supervisor shift/dive briefings.
  • Participate in collation and recording of as-built data / video footage and writing of close-out report.
  • Participate in review of installation procedures/drawings/documentation and feedback to Project Engineers onshore.
  • Provide operational input and support to onshore project teams throughout both the onshore and offshore phases of tenders and projects.

 

Onshore:

When working in the office, in addition to vessel support activities like

  • Maintaining vessel project history file.
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of Standard Task Plans and Standard Lift Plans, including updates where required from past MOC’s
  • Ensuring vessel description documents / vessel databook are up to date and well understood by Projects.
  • Developing vessel activities norms for inputting into future schedules
  • Actively engaging in vessel specific knowledge sharing and capture of project lessons learned.

 

He/She is also present within project teams and is expected to complete tasks such as:

  • Participate in project HAZIDs/HIRAs as required.
  • Provide operational input, best practice information, schedule norms and technical capability information relating to the vessel during the early stages of a project / tender.
  • Provide support for Project Teams and Tender Teams as directed by the Vessel Operations Manager (if applicable) or the Functional Manager.
  • Review vessel readiness, mobilization plans, procedures, lift plans, FAT / SIT and interface between Project and Offshore Resources to ensure that equipment/asset to be used are fit-for-purpose with adequate documentation and level of preparation.
  • Assist the Project in the planning and coordination of logistic activities including mobilization and demobilization of project crew, project installation aids, consumables and spare parts.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Established knowledge of project installation engineering.
  • Ability to function as a team member across multiple projects and vessel departments.
  • Sound communication skills, oral, written and electronic.
  • Ability to prioritize own workload, manage time accordingly and inform senior team members where constraints will affect a project in terms of program or budget.
  • Ability to manage interfaces within a project structure, including other disciplines; logistics, project management, clients, suppliers, vessel departments.
  • Strong safety leadership.
  • Degree qualified in an engineering discipline.
