OVERVIEW OF ROLE
This is an opportunity to be part of an international vessel operator in the Energy Industry.
This role is not assigned to a regular vessel but will require you to work across our fleet of vessels and on our mobile asset equipment globally.
The Lay Senior Mechanical Technician has responsibility for the operation, maintenance and repair of all mechanical equipment related to lay deck operations. Under the direction of the Supervisor, the technician implements and monitors technical procedures and reporting, work management and execution.
The Lay Senior Mechanical Technician is expected to contribute to a positive HSEQ culture within Subsea 7 and ensure familiarity with and adherence to local HSEQ codes and practices.
The Lay Senior Mechanical Technician is expected to contribute to a culture of ethics and integrity within Subsea 7 and ensure familiarity with and adherence to our Code of Conduct.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate within the Code of Conduct
- Operate according to Subsea 7’s Management Principles
- Ensures that the equipment and all relevant systems are in complete working order and in compliance with all technical requirements throughout the contract period.
- Ensures that the equipment is checked in accordance with relevant check lists.
- Organises the planned maintenance for the system and maintains complete technical records and logs, including any authorised modifications
- Participate in the continuous development and implementation of Company’s preventative planned maintenance and certification programme, ensuring all tasks are performed in accordance with Regulations, Procedures and Work Instructions and in conjunction with Shift Equipment Supervisors, Senior Technicians, Technical Support Engineers and Chief Engineers.
- During all maintenance and operational activities, liaise with and communicate the equipment status to the Shift Equipment Supervisor,
- Keeps a continuous record, reports defects as they arise and uses these records to prepare for refits and maintenance periods by ensuring that spare parts, materials, etc are available when required.
- Ensuring that all equipment and stores used by the Equipment Group are in a satisfactory condition as regards performance, maintenance and calibration necessary to carry out the operation.
- Ensuring the Subsea 7 operating procedures are adhered to in the day to day work execution, and carrying out general operations team duties as required.
- Ensuring that a thorough and detailed handover briefing prior to handing over control of work activities to a relief– this includes comfort/meal breaks.
- Be fully aware of emergency and contingency procedures in accordance with safe working practices, company safety requirements and legislative requirements.
- Responsible for striving to continuously improve systems and personal/team performance within the department and the Company, in conjunction with personnel within and outwith the department.
- Active participation in the recommendation of training and development needs of Technicians on Group Assets. (This covers both operation and maintenance.)
- Active participation in the collation and upkeep of all documentation relating to equipment, including: PUWER and Task Risk Assessments; Operating Procedures; Maintenance Task Lists; Work Instructions; Technical Specifications; Photographic Records; S.A.P. Maintenance System, TM Master, AMOSW or other vessel specific maintenance system.
- Maintain efficient spares programmes for all Group Assets and ensure inventories are kept up to date.
- Have a working knowledge of Industry Standards and Regulations to help ensure ongoing legislative compliance of all existing Group Assets.
- Rectify any defects, as defined by safety audits/inspections, in accordance with safe working and operational practice.
- Assist Shift Equipment Supervisors and Technical Support Engineers with the preparation of technical reports relating to the performance of maintenance and operation of Group Assets
- Supervise on an ad-hoc temporary basis on request

Key Requirements:
- IMCA Log Book and previous experience as Senior Lay Mechanical Technician
- Minimum HNC (or equivalent) in appropriate Mechanical/Hydraulic Qualification
- Served a recognised trade apprenticeship as a Mechanical Technician or equivalent
- Hold Valid Offshore Medical
- Hold Valid OPITO approved Offshore Survival Certificate
- Lay Equipment experience with Carousel, Reel Drive and Tensioners is beneficial
- Experience using a Planned Maintenance System (such as TM Master) is beneficial
- An awareness of international Codes, Standards and Specifications.
