OVERVIEW OF ROLE

This is an opportunity to be part of an international vessel operator in the Energy Industry.

This role is not assigned to a regular vessel but will require you to work across our fleet of vessels and on our mobile asset equipment globally.

 

The Lay Senior Electrical Technician reports to the Lay Electrical Supervisor and has responsibility for the maintenance and repair of the pipelay equipment with specific responsibility of electrical, electronic and instrumentation systems. Implements and monitors technical procedures and reporting, work management and execution, supervision of personnel and operational duties.

The Lay Senior Electrical Technician is expected to contribute to a positive HSEQ culture within Subsea 7 and ensure familiarity with and adherence to local HSEQ codes and practices.

The Lay Senior Electrical Technician is expected to contribute to a culture of ethics and integrity within Subsea 7 and ensure familiarity with and adherence to our Code of Conduct.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate within the Code of Conduct
  • Operate according to Subsea 7’s Management Principles
  • Ensures equipment and all systems are in complete working order and in compliance with all technical requirements
  • Ensures that the equipment is checked and maintained in accordance with relevant check lists
  • Carries out strip down and repair of control equipment - controllers, transducers etc.
  • Experience with ac/dc electrical motors, frequency inverters and control systems.
  • Organises and completes planned maintenance for the system, keeping records of defects to assist in planning of re-fits and maintenance periods
  • Compiles and maintains technical records, reports and logs in a computerised maintenance system
  • Assists in the identification and ordering of suitable spare parts to ensure they are available when required
  • Uses logical fault finding techniques during breakdown situations
  • Operates pipelay spread and auxiliary equipment during Lay operations
  • Supervise on an Ad-hoc temporary basis on request
  • Be involved in the consultation process (talk & listen). Participate in Toolbox Talks and Pre Job Safety Meetings. Attend HSE Meetings as required.
  • Remain aware of their HSE requirements under legislation and in support of the Company.
  • Use the correct protective clothing and equipment for work, in accordance with working procedures, ensuring that it is maintained in a safe condition and immediately report any known defects to their Line Manager.
  • Report all accidents and personal injuries to their Line Manager.
  • Perform work in accordance with training such that they do not place themselves or others at risk. Co-operate with the Company in all efforts to protect the health and safety of yourself and others, and protect the environment.
  • Comply with Health, Safety and Environmental Policies, Standards, Procedures and other information. Use the main access ways as provided; comply with relevant safety signs, signals and notices. Do not enter any area that poses a risk or where authorisation is not granted.

Systems with which the technician should be intimately familiar include:

  • Single and 3-phase Distribution Systems and Switchgear
  • Protection and Isolation Procedures
  • AC/DC Electric Motors
  • Motor Control Gear, including Reduced Voltage Starting and Protection
  • Motor Speed Control, including Variable Speed Drives
  • Programmable Logic Controllers (interrogating programs for fault finding)
  • Control Cards (Convertors, Proportional Control etc)
  • Lighting and Emergency Lighting
  • SCADA Systems (or similar Distributed Control Systems)
  • HMI Devices
  • Transducers - pressure, load cells, flow, temperature, distance etc
  • General communications and cctv systems.

Key Requirements:

  • IMCA Log Book and previous experience as Senior Lay Electrical Technician
  • Served a recognised trade apprenticeship as an Electrical Technician or equivalent
  • Minimum HNC (or equivalent) in appropriate Electrical, Electronic or Control Systems Qualification
  • Hold a Valid Offshore Medical
  • Hold a Valid Opito approved Offshore Survival Certificate
  • Hold Siemens PLC Certificate
  • Lay Equipment experience with Carousel, Reel Drive and Tensioners
  • A variety of control systems preferred – PLCs, inverter drives, etc
  • Experience using a Planned Maintenance System (such as TM Master) is beneficial
  • An awareness of international Codes, Standards and Specifications
